Interesting read, nice to see a little bit of technical information as to the usual opinion "sythetic is better..." why? "better quality".

Good thread. Okay then, I ran Honda's regular oil for the break-in period. Now I'm running a syntheic-blend to finish off the break-in and as a transition. Next I'll search for a full synthetic 5W-20 (i'll try to find Mobil). Then I'll change my oil every 10,000 miles. I'll check for oil consumption too. If I'm burning oil, then I'll up the viscosity and I'll go with a 10W-30. Sounds like a plan to me.

Thanks Pogi2k1ex!

mobil1 does not have a 5w20 at this time....use 0w30 or 5w30, it'll be fine......i've been using 5w30 since the first oil change, the next time i change my oil, im gonna use 0w30

I emailed Mobil almost a year ago. They said they had no plans to produce 5w20 in Mobil 1. Don't know if they have changed their minds yet now that every manufacturer is jumping aboard.

Use a quality oil and change it regularly with the filter. With the power (or lack thereof) and the excellent sealing of the combustion chamber in our cars, synthetic may be just piece of mind.

Sorry, instead of 10W-30 in my previous post I meant a 5W-30. Hum... Too bad Mobil doesn't make a 5W-20 yet. Maybe they will have it out when I need to change my oil again? Hum... That 0W-30 might be something to try. It should free up some horsies. I noticed an improvement when I changed my oil the first time from Honda's stuff to that synthetic-blend. Anyway, we'll see.

amsoil makes s full synthetic

syn oil can probably go 10k, but if the filter can make it that long is another question. fram makes a big deal about their x2 filter that can go 7k. i'm still not convinced filters can go 10k.
