215/45 or 205/45??

according to the tire calc, this is what I found for the speedometer reading with 17" rims

215/45 = 0.61% too slow
205/40 = 0.84% too fast

so what I would like to know is what would be better...I think the lower percentage, but am not 100% sure...

Thanx

I have 215/45's, they fit perfectly....they match up perfectly with the body panel...not to mention a bigger patch...

With 1.5" drop they my rub the plastic fenderwell-trim in the front on hard-cornering...but no biggie...

Yeah I was thinking of 205/40 but yeah I think I am going to try 215/45 just because I don't want too fast.

According to This Tire Calc. going with 205/45/17 leaves you with lower milage on the odometer.

So going 1000 miles on stock tires gives you 1000, but with the 205/45/17 you are left with 997.24 and some change. I personally would go with that just to b under.

there's the answer i was kinda looking for...so you say i'll actually be speeding a little more (than I do now:laugh but my odometer will register a shorter distance than I'm actually traveling?

i think the best match for our car is a 21540R17

Simkin 04-06-2002 11:44 AM

not for 17's

its 215/45-17

NickDaMans02Civic 04-06-2002 08:29 PM

Yeah I am going with 215/45/17 a little more rubber and won't have such a big gap since I don't plan on doing the drop on the car, plus having less miles is always a plus

UPRIZEN 04-11-2002 03:44 AM

Toyo proxes FZ4 has a 215 40 17,I have them, they look great and offer plenty of protection for rim.

NickDaMans02Civic 04-11-2002 04:38 PM

With a drop and no rub nice, humm I had a dealer tell me if had more than 2 people in the car I could rub? I think he was full of it.

My bad, now that i've researched the topic with 17 inch rims on our cars, you need to go with 215-45s. Its the closest matching tire size. 215 40's will not only throw off your instrumentation, they will also throw off your suspension geometry, when you change overall wheel diameter, you change the radius of the tire to the ground. When this occurs you are cahnging the cars camber and allignment. Be sure to address both issues if you do go to a tire size different than 215-45 R17's
