Rear Disc Conversion

Anybody know when AEM or any other company is coming out with a rear disc conversion for our cars?

JBlazeVA 04-01-2002 01:25 PM

AEM will come out with it in the future....jus be patient...

SuziQ 04-01-2002 02:29 PM

you can't go to the junk yard and pull the assembly off a wrecked ex?

02CarbonCivic 04-01-2002 02:32 PM

SuziQ.... what are you talking about? They dont make a rear disc for our cars yet so how could he get one from a junkyard...

SuziQ 04-01-2002 02:57 PM

i thought the EX could come with ABS. most ABS systems i know include four disc brakes. that's what i'm talking about CarbonCivic.

I have an EX, and no, there is no 4 wheel disk.. annoying as it is..

do you mean the EL?.. cause i've seen some up in BC and they have rear disc brakes me thinks.

oh yeah and i've always wondered bout this: is it disc or disk? LOL

what im thinking of doing is just taking the rear Knuckle and disc brake assembly from an RSX and bolting it onto my EX. i am almost positive it will fit easily, and the RSX has ABS so that shouldnt be a prob.

goto Acura CarLand and check out the following parts:

Left Rear Knuckle assembly: $132
Right Rear Knuckle assembly: $132
Lower Rear Arm Bushings: $7.10 x 4
Upper Rear Arm Bushing: $6.42 X 2
entire rear brake rotor & caliper assemblies: $?? x 2

after doing this, you could get a big-brake kit for an RSX and replace the stock rotor with that and then do a Civic Front Big Rotor conversion and you'd have big rotors on both front and rear.....that'd be so sweet!:)

Wanger 04-01-2002 04:08 PM

DAMN, if i had the time, might just "think" about doing that... a lotta work there.. might as well just sit on my lazy butt and wait for aem kit :)

PerfectD3 04-01-2002 04:22 PM

God, if you did do this you would throw the braking bias out the door something fierce, but hell, you can learn to deal with it. Id go for it.

The RSX has 5 lugs not 4 like our Civics.

Pir8pete 04-01-2002 04:57 PM

AEM has a drum-to-disc bake conversion kit already out fo0's

As Silkor said, the suspension component off the RSX will fit on the new Civics. I know the knuckles in the rear will fit, but we might even be able to get away with just changin ghte hub itself. Same for the front. This will not only give us rear disc brakes, but also a five lug conversion. If/When I get the money together for this, I'll do it.

the new Si has 4 wheel disc, doesn't it? why not just keep an eye out for one of those to hit the local yard...someone is bound to wrap one around a tree not too soon after getting it...>>sad thought, I know...<<

Yeah, the Acura EL (in Canada) has four-wheel disc. You may be able to order them from an Acura dealer in Canada perhaps? Just an idea.
