Nos cost me 1800$ so far....

Update on my stupid decision to use Nos. My friend (mechanic) called and said it looks like I bent a rod using the Nos. He says it looks like there is some wear and tear on most of the pistons and suggest replaceing all the rings, and pistons. Plus he said, somehow it looks like the head gasket kind of degenerated from so much heat. How much??? 1800$ (so far) At least it is repairable. But I should be up and running by the end of the week.

Can you plz give a detailed description of the kit u were using. NX, nos, Zex, was it a 50 shot, dry or wet??
--->give us the 411

BLUENVY01 03-19-2002 02:28 PM

im guessin he was using either a wet kit, or a large shot (above 50), or a combination of the two....

Don't feel bad. Some friggin mini-van ran me off the road and I scraped a stop sign. They kept going, I'm still saving to get it fixed, which is hard cuz i'm a student. Anyway, the estimate i got when it first happened was 2.000...Oh yeah, and a friggin intrigue slammed on their breaks in front of me for no reason like two weeks after i got my civic. That one was closer to 4.000 and my insurance flew up. GRRR! They're basing our insurance on the older civics which younger people have a tendency to mod and wreck...HAH that shouldn't be for our civic. How much HP can we squeeze out of a stock EX engine, maybe 135. MAYBE! That's of course assuming we don't go for NOS. anyway, i just wanted to vent that. :)

APS 03-19-2002 02:32 PM

Sure....Don't do what I did. I got a good deal on a NOS 75-shot dry. That's all I did. No upgrade to fuel system or anything. I only used it twice. First time was great....car seemed different afterwards. Second time.....KABLOOEY!!!!!

Jon 03-19-2002 02:58 PM

I'm sorry about your civ, that really sucks. I have to say though that somebody else on the forum (can't remember his handle, but his little icon was a hippie w/ glasses) said before he had a 75 shot and he had no problems whatsoever even though people say that amount is too much for our motor. He also said that he did the necessary performance upgrades in the engine to make it handle that much power.

From what it sounds like, you had a stock engine with 75 shot nitrous and that sounds like a definite no-can-do. no upgrades to beef up the engine and make it stronger, plus the fact you have a dry kit so maybe a factor was the lean mixture of too much nitrous and not enough fuel from the injectors. Definitely I would have suggested to replace certain parts under the hood with stronger ones so your engine could handle the sudden increases of power when you released your nitrous.

really sorry about your car bro

There's your problem...

You don't want to run anything above a 50 shot unless you have already done upgrades in which case it would still be risky running a 75 shot. Run 50 shots and maybe you're engine won't blow up next time....

djlunatic 03-19-2002 03:06 PM

nitro is dangerous if not used correctly.

at least there was not a bad accident or speeding tickets also

antidote11 03-19-2002 03:07 PM

NOS is for wusses.....NOS should never be used for street use, you will only run into trouble like these guys....especially
if you are running it through a tiny little 4 cylinder SOHC engine like the 2k1 Civic engine......

How many bottles did you go through APS? One bottle per use?

j/k but how hard did you really use the 75shot of nitrous? does one use mean 15 minutes of gas-gas-gas-gas-gas ?

delacampos 03-19-2002 03:25 PM

first off, how did you manage to hook up a dry kit? dry kits do not work on our civics. if it was a dry kit, then it was a faulty installation. whoever installed it didn't realize that they is no fpr vacuum line. therefore, there was no extra fuel being added when you sprayed. this make perfect sense on why your motor went the way it did. yes, it could have survived it once, but the second go around...boom!

once again let me state it for the record... i run a 75 shot. i've been doing so for 8-9 months. i have not experiencedANY problems at all. i don't want to here this sh!t about running more than a 50 shot is stupid. TUNING TUNING TUNING

Grey 03-19-2002 03:34 PM

Yipper skipper. Wet only. Dry = running lean. Our stock fuel system will not be able to balance out the extra oxygen with fuel. Exactly as delacampos said.

Jon 03-19-2002 03:50 PM

Delacampos, can you tell me what you modified under the hood to handle your 75 shot?

2001excoupe 03-19-2002 04:03 PM

burn it then get a rsx type s:)
