And here it is with Philips HID. Now thats what I call blinding oncoming traffic.

I had to make a custom shield using cutouts from an aluminum baking pan to keep from highbeaming everyone. I thought D2Rs were suppose to prevent that, but appearantly H4 is different, I might as well have gotten D2S bulbs and fabricated a shield to get even more lumens.

This is why I was so mad a while back when PIAA claimed the Xtreme white is the closest yet to HIDs. Shoot...

Wanger 03-02-2002 03:52 AM

hey if anyone wants to get bulbs, "not phillips" get the ones called Catz, they are made in japan and usually runs about 10 bucks cheaper than piaa's and their brightness comes in between the piaas shown here and the phillips.

NitehawkVTEC 03-02-2002 04:56 AM

Hmm, I'm just gonna go with Real HID myself. Those pics just reinforce my need for HIDs. Thanks dave. I also had those extreme whites, but right now they're burnt out. lasted all of 2 months.

Voiceofid 03-02-2002 07:00 AM

5 sets of piaa xtreme at 80 dollars a set = hid

1028CiViC 03-02-2002 08:19 AM

piaa aren't that bright..they are expensive..but they are easily burn out..
i had use piaa 's before..they weren't as bright as the one's i have now...these were 35 cdn..
they are hyper hid... they are 12v 80w and they are pretty bright..of course compare to hid is really far
away... i am saving up money for hid too..and by the way dave do you have projectors? or it's just from your normal light..

Voiceofid 03-02-2002 08:36 AM

from what i see, it reads H4, projectors do not use h4, thus i assume it's stock headlights:tup: i can't wait till i get hid!

1028CiViC 03-02-2002 08:51 AM

need to save up some money for it.keke.

Hefe 03-02-2002 09:59 AM

Dave, you got the D2S bulbs, D2R come with the glare shield.

I'm gettin the K2 6000K HID lights in 2 weeks :tup::tup::tup::tup::tup:

iceman 03-02-2002 10:45 AM

1028CiViC 03-02-2002 11:38 AM

hm..i don't think they are illegall..and i think slam are selling them for 375

Voiceofid 03-02-2002 12:41 PM

now we just need maurx take a pic of his light pattern like that

Unleaded 03-02-2002 09:29 PM

HID's are illegal unless they are available as an optional equipment for your car, like BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc...However, this is not really enforced.

Dave 03-02-2002 10:30 PM

I've had the Catz galaxy whites before, they look like HIDs but not as bright and mine burned out in about 3 monthes.
Yes, I'm using the stock housing.
Hefe, the K2 H4 kits come with the shielding. The philips does not, even the D2Rs. I just copied the K2 design and made my own shield using aluminum.

Cool thing was tonight, while driving home on the freeway, some Audi pulls up quick next to me, then matches speed. Either he wanted to race, or was checking out my lights.:)

they don't even look like hid's

Mokushi 03-05-2002 12:45 PM

<< they don't even look like hid's >>

From what I have read and heard, HID's take time to "burn the bulbs in." So, when you first install them, they look yellowish for a while. But after that, they should give the pruplish/blue/white look everyone seems to like...

NitehawkVTEC 03-05-2002 01:07 PM

it may just be the pic also, I photographed my PIAA Xtreme white's, and they came out looking nice and yellow. Which was good, because I was showing the pic to a cop so i couild get my license plate back (long story)

Dave 03-05-2002 10:37 PM

Yeah, I think it's the white balance on the camera playing tricks. Also, it takes time for the color to burn in ~20 hours. I'm using it even in the day time to accelerate it.
