Greddy Evo Sucks!

I'm sorry, but this is just wrong. Do you other peepz with the Greddy Evo have pics from the side like htown?

cwick187 02-21-2002 03:32 PM

I sure would hate to hit a large bump going too fast with that exhaust

Xjet 02-21-2002 03:34 PM

I think it hangs way too low for comfort, whether the Civic is dropped or stock. I would bet that the life expectancy of that exhaust on the street is 1 month max, before it gets torn off. A shame too .... Greddy make nice products otherwise

<< Why's it suck..the appearance isn't impressive for sure.. >>

Exactly, that's why. I guess a body kit would cover it up a little, but dayam! Plus speed bumps and what not would eat through that thing in a jiffy! I've seen a Supra with an exhaust that hangs too low and over bumps sparks would fly.

DRJ 02-21-2002 03:41 PM

Regardless of what anyone says, I would wait to see the "official" EVO exhaust for the coupe before drawing any conclusions.

http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/...thumbsdown.gifI'm definitely not a fan of the BIG can!!!http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/...thumbsdown.gif

mwwhonda 02-21-2002 04:01 PM

damn, and i thought my TCS was bad......it occasionally rubs when i am leaving parking lots with very sharpe angels, and over speed bumps, but that evo is UGLY and probably LOUD AND ANNOYING AS HELL, like all other greddy products i have ever heard

01civicboi 02-21-2002 04:26 PM

damn! i can't believe i used to want one of those. they're supposedly designed for "lowered" cars:susp:

trevor 02-21-2002 05:39 PM

woooooohhoooooo......glad i didnt get that.....I was really debating.....yea,, maybee the real thing,,,(if thats not it)...Will not hang as low......
TCS:tup::tup::tup:

drummermattie02 02-21-2002 05:41 PM

I thought the Greddy Evo was supposed to have an offset tip to compensate for the large muffler... in that picture, the tip looks like it's in the center. Are we sure that's a real Evo and not a generic "evo style" muffler? Just a thought. I don't think Greddy would make a product so unsuited to a vehicle.

StLVtec 02-21-2002 05:45 PM

That has to be the 4dr mounted on the 2dr It doesnt sit like that on the real coupe model

1028CiViC 02-21-2002 06:05 PM

is there one for coupe and sedan..maybe the one in the picture is for sedan..but they put in coupe..
i don't think greddy will design a product like that...

moose87 02-21-2002 06:51 PM

that looks terrible. glad i didn't get one.

Voiceofid 02-21-2002 06:58 PM

that made me don't want it either!

1028CiViC 02-21-2002 07:00 PM

can't imagine..if that was my exhaust...i probably f u ked casue of speed bump;

NeoMagus 02-21-2002 08:12 PM

You guys are all haters. Once someone gives an opinion you all have to follow it or look like a jack@ss.

Personally I think the greddy evo rocks. It looks like that on the 99-00 Coupe if you guys ever saw one of those before, so I dont know where you people get off saying "Its not the real model". My friend has one on his Si and it has the same ground clearance as my 2k1 Coupe. In person it really does not hang that low, and for the people that says the sound sucks maybe you should hear one before drawing that conclusion. :shake:

Grey 02-21-2002 08:54 PM

Do you have a clear view from the side like htown? I'm curious whether all Greddy Evo installations look the same.

NeoMagus 02-21-2002 09:04 PM

its dark out so I cant get any right now. That one above shows a clear picture of ground clearance.

Maverick 02-21-2002 11:26 PM

have those cars been lowered with springs at all? they don't look it. if you haven't lowered but are planning to, it looks like you might lose that sucker. not bein a hater, just the facts jack. i think it doesn't look too bad personally

htowncivicEX 02-21-2002 11:48 PM

I find it quite amusing that everyone here is dogging my car left and right, baseless comments (EV0 sUCkS dUde!, thAt SHiZNiT is fUGlY!) are thrown about, questions are asked, but yet no one has thought to ask my opinion.

Anyways, for what it's worth:

I'll admit the canister and tip hang pretty low (there is about 4-5" of clearance between the lowest part of the exhaust and the ground). I've also got my car slammed pretty low to the ground and I'm running slightly smaller profile tires (40) than someone with an EX would usually use (45). As for the EVO scraping over every single speed bump, I have very rarely had that problem. Try this experiment - stand to the side of your friend's car and watch as he goes over a speed bump. Now look closely and observe at what point does the rear tire clear the bump and the car's chassis is on its downward path. I performed this same experiment at the shop where I was having my Ground Controls, Konis, and camber kit installed. Right outside of the garage where Hocus Pocus Autodynamics performs their auto work, there is a big ol' speed bump that they use to test all of their cars right after a suspension change. The ONLY part of the EVO that has even a chance of scraping is the tip. This is because the canister has already cleared over the bump while the car is on its upward path (before the tire clears the bump and gravity brings the car back downward). When GReddy says that the EVO has an offset tip, it means that the tip is attached higher to the canister than in the Power Extreme (where the tip is attached to the bottom of the canister face). Since the tip is the only part that will ever possibly scrape, this gives you an extra inch or so of clearance over the PE.

Since I got my EVO installed 3 months ago, I have put over 12,000 miles on my car and have driven it halfway across the US and back (Texas to Las Vegas, Vegas to San Fran, San Fran to LA, and then back to Houston), and even spent a week navigating the hellish roads of downtown San Francisco. Through it all, my low-hanging EVO survived it all without a sweat. I can probably count on one hand the # of times I have managed to scrape, and this is usually due to me being forced to make a head-on turn out of a steep driveway.

You are free to make any comments whatsoever about the looks or the sound (personally I love the canister look and am really pleased with the low deep growl). But please try to at least ATTEMPT to get some hard facts before jumping to wild conclusions about the life span of my exhaust system, whether it's actually a real EVO, the ground clearance, etc.

Regards,
Aaron

That red Civic in the pic I have posted is lowered 2 inches all around. Hes had his evo on since august and as you can see its still attached to his car.

HTown- its pointless trying to argue with the morons on this board. They'll agree with whatever the mainstream is agreeing with. :shake:

nbpEMCivic 02-22-2002 01:52 AM

This thread is a pretty good reflection of the quality (or lack thereof) of the posts on this site lately..

Grey 02-22-2002 07:42 AM

htowncivicEX: I know what you're talking about with the clearence when going over speedbumps. Regardless, the fact that you have scraped that thing a number of times concerns me. Based on how much the Greddy Evolution sticks out from under the car I will not be considering it when it comes time for me to buy an exhaust system.

Excuse my moderator status and let me revert to user status.

NeoMagus: Looking forward to that pic of your ride from the side. That is if you've got the balls to post it. The morons on this board (I guess this includes me) come to obvious conclusions when faces with hard core evidence of suckage.

Phillippe01: Dude, you're such a newbie. Link in some threads that you've posted that are worthy and prove me wrong.

Pedrito 02-22-2002 07:44 AM

that looks sick man im glad i got my SKUNK2...check it out in member rides and tell me what u think....it doesnt hang low i like it and it has great soun:eek:

nbpEMCivic 02-22-2002 08:55 AM

haha nice Grey...I has riding kinda high last night...but still lately its just sucked ass on here...nobody posts anything informative, all we do is mess w/ eachother and piss people off..you gotta admit its not like the good ol days way back when I first joined. Me, a newbie though? Ouch man...ouch...I posted many "worthy" threads in my time, but like yourself have also participated in numerous "unworthy" threads. It's just lately the "unworthy" ones have outnumbered the "worthy" ones. I'm not trying to insult you directly Grey, infact you've always been on my "cool" list (haha Mr.DIY)....no hard feelings eh buddy?

Grey 02-22-2002 09:06 AM

Naw, I know. This thread ain't that bad though. Most people agree that the Greddy Evo hangs too low. I want to see some pictures where it doesn' hang as low. Maybe someone installed it differently? Maybe this is the one for the sedan? Who knows?

NeoMagus 02-22-2002 09:12 AM

OOH...is your big and bossy Moderator tone supposed to scare me? You know I always back up what I say.

http://forums.clubrsx.com/attachment...&postid=170821

All Greddy EVO pics from the side show the can, what do you expect its large. Look up any other Civic coupe from the side with it attached and it looks the same.

http://forums.clubrsx.com/attachment...&postid=170819
http://forums.clubrsx.com/attachment...&postid=170829

YAH, MAYBE IF YOUR CAR IS LOWERED 4 INCHES This isnt the exhaust for you, but 2 Inches is nothing. If the speed bumps in your area are that fuuckin high, then maybe you shouldn't be driving a lowered Civic over them.

<< I'm not trying to insult you directly Grey, infact you've always been on my "cool" list >>

and Phil...it seems you like to brown nose the moderators, eh?

<< and Phil...it seems you like to brown nose the moderators >>

haha motherfu cker, I didn't even know he was a mod untill today when I noticed it in the other thread we are getting pissy about.

I feel that the exhaust on the green one is way too low, I wouldn't feel right driving around with that. Does that go from about 4 to 6 inches off the ground there (the muffler that is)? Get a ruler out there and take pics.
