for people who have custom exhaust

what i wanted to ask is how loud is your car with the resonator removed? i installed a magnaflow muffler with 2 1/4 piping and no resonator and it sounds really nice but its more louder than i expected. if i put back the resonator how quiet will it get?

Amphiprion 02-10-2002 05:18 PM

My set-up is actually pretty subtle.......arospeed bomb series muffler w/ 2.25" piping. It is even more quiet (from the inside) after I dampened.

antidote11 02-10-2002 06:19 PM

If I may ask what may be a stupid question...but why not get a cat-back exhaust, like a DC, Greddy or Magnaflow ?

How much do you actually save when you do a custom exhaust ? Is it worth it over a full cat back system ?

Cowboy 02-10-2002 06:26 PM

If you look at the price difference it makes a huge difference, why pay 700 dollars when you can pay 250, i know a guy who is going to get me dual exhaust with 2, 250 dollar mufflers with piping and everything for 500$

antidote11 02-10-2002 06:30 PM

Wow, that much huh ? See, I don't know because I am getting a cat-back...
I didn't know you could get a custom for that cheap !! Are they louder though.....?

And will you have enough back pressure with the dual....??

MagnaflowGuy 02-10-2002 06:30 PM

Joe, if you put the original resonator back, it will be pretty quiet, put a Magnapack resonator in (its what we use in our catback systems) it will tone it dow, put not totally kill the sound...What part# Magnaflow muffler did you get????

Cowboy 02-10-2002 06:35 PM

It will be pretty much like a normal exhaust system, just a different sound, and it looks better. As far as back pressure goes it is no worse or better. No exhaust on a naturally aspirated car is going to give a very noticable gain. If you add a turbo on the other hand there will be a much better gain.

i payed 150.00 for my custom pipeing and 130 for the ractive stanless steel muffler...i though it was a good deal....and if u give ur exhaust a couple of days it will quite up some after the break-in peirod.

nbpEMCivic 02-10-2002 10:33 PM

Look here, check in the "My Car" folder, should be a .wma file..sound clip of my exhaust..Arospeed muffler w/ 2.25 piping

MagnaflowGuy 02-10-2002 11:26 PM

Joe....go to your nearest muffler shop, ask them for Magnaflow part number 14415(2.25" SS resonator), you should be able to get it for less than $100 installed.........

Perfectcivic 02-11-2002 01:59 PM

I got custom pipin for 120 and was too cheap for a muffler so i spent 25 bucks on a tip that looks llike the thermal one sounds like a gt with straight pipes

nbpEMCivic 02-11-2002 02:18 PM

sounds more like a truck dude...or some kinda of Civic on drugs..but good and loud though:tup:

Flatlander 02-11-2002 03:25 PM

I paid $160 for a muffler w/ silencer, and 80 for 2.25" pipeing run from the cat back. I thought that was a good deal!

NeoMagus 02-11-2002 04:37 PM

I paid 70 for my custom 2.25" Exhaust on my Si and 20 to install everything -

sure as hell beats the 549+ I paid on the EVO for my 2k1!! Never again!!

2.5 inch mid pipe.. universal hks hiper

<< 2.5 inch mid pipe.. universal hks hiper >>

he didn't ask you what exhaust you have. he wanted to know if your car was loud once the resonator was removed
anyway, joe, i have the apex'i N1 with 2.5" pipes. the size of the pipes alone without the resonator made the exhaust sound pretty loud but still low and deep. if you get the 2.25", it should sound ok. it all depends on your volume preference:tup:

1028CiViC 02-11-2002 05:44 PM

mine is a lx .. has remove 2 there's still a cat in the header..it's still loud..
sorry for the post just than..

Cowboy 02-11-2002 05:50 PM

I am going to run duals with two hayame mufflers, has anyone else ran dual exhaust? my friend david is goin to do it for 500, what was anyone else's price on duals?

1028CiViC 02-11-2002 05:55 PM

ractive .. haha

1028CiViC 02-11-2002 05:58 PM

Phillippe01: don't know which one is your sound clip do you mind send it to me?

NitehawkVTEC 02-11-2002 06:03 PM

duals huh? hmmm i've heard that duals actually decrease performance, our engine's don't actually need duals. So you'd probably be better off just getting a dummy pipe if you like the look of duals. BTW, a Magnaflow cat back can be had for like 300 can't it?

Cowboy 02-11-2002 06:11 PM

If it des hinder peformance it won't be much. In my opinion it is extremely stupid to buy a 250 dollar muffler that you are not going to use. It is dumb.
