Short Ram vs Cold Air Intake?
 

... just wondering what they do exactly. I know that CAI helps the car breathe deeper, but yeah. Actually, more or less looking for a comparison, because they look the same. [IMG]i/expressions/laugh2.gif[/IMG]

CAI = More power up to 4000 RPMs
SRI = More power after 4000 RPMs.

I'm getting the CAI. I don't necessarily want a faster Civic, but since the VTEC engines in the EX power up after around 4500 RPMs, I chose the Cold Air. It's all about personal taste.

SoNiCcIvIc, I'm not so sure you are right about the CAI=More power before 4000rpm and SRI=More power after 4000rpm. The simple way of putting this is Cold/Cool air = More Horsepower at any RPM. Dense air (cool/cold) always creates more power. I asked Injen a few weeks ago which was better, SRI or CAI and they said CAI allows more power, but a SRI is just easier to install.

I had a 93 Accord 10th Anniversary Edition with an SRI and after I drove around for a while and the car was warmed up, the car had less performance because it was sucking in hot air from under the hood. It aways ran better when it was cool under the hood.

all you need to know is
short ram = automatic
CAI = manual
and AEM and INJEN it doesnt matter which one so dont ask

depens on what like...CAI is a little better:)

CAI is the best bet.............. from what i hear

From what i read the CAI has the greater hp increases
i am goin to get a AEM CAI
i am just lookin for the best price right now

just remember that the AEM CAI won't fit automatics...
in that case.. you'll need the injen CAI

i've got the AEM cold air myself but if you live in say, the northeast then you may be prone to sucking up snow during the winter season - espcially if you've got H&R's and your civic is slammed. believe me, sucking snow up through your inktake is not a pleasant sound. there is always the AEM bypass valve but i think you've got to pretty much saw the intake in half. with the short ram its a trade off. you wont suck crap up through your throttle but you also wont get the cooler air passing under your car.

i don't have a cai or sri, yet, but i think i will just go with the sri cause 1) i have an automatic, and 2) all i keep hearing about is you have to be careful in the rain and snow with a CAI and i am not the careful type of person so i guess the injen SRI is for me...

CAI is for low end power, normally before 4k RPM
SRI is for high end power, normally after 4k RPM around the VTEC range

However, a SRI will make a lot more noise than a CAI

It's all up to preference! Whatever choice you make, it's only going to make a difference of 1-3 HP anyways.

AEM CAI is for Manuals only, if you have an auto, get an Injen

Injen dyno charts have proven to give more gains than AEM

Bypass is useless, the concept is it will prevent water from getting into engine only if the filter is FULLY submerged. Now....I'm not a genious or anything, but water is already getting into the engine before the bypass stops water from going in!

All this is fact, because I have read this same topic 100+ times :)

i have the AEM SRI and it's alright....i wish i got a cold air instead though......wanted to feel that extra boost if you kno what i mean......oh and jus a warning for those who get the SRI....make sure you install it so that when you close your hood the top of the pipe doesnt hit your hood....my pipe got a lil 'ding' because i didn't install it in all the way.....:shake:

i'm going with the AEM CAI because it's slightly easier to install- that and color.. aside from that, Injen or AEM it truly doesn't matter- don't listen to people saying that one dynos higher than the other- every dyno is different, and it depends a lot on the other mods you have and conditions at time of test.. either way, if you want Cold Air, get whichever you think looks better.. end of story.

i think the only problem that i have heard bout the CAI is that it sometimes messes up during rainy days...for me i think imma get an sri and then buy an extension for it...so i can swith around from sri to cai...imo
