Tire Size Question

I have a question about tire size. I am getting some 15" rims to replace the stock 14" hubs that came stock on the LX. My question is what tire size will return the car to original specs in order to keep the speedometer on target. I've heard all the following: 185/65/15, 195/65/15 and 205/60/15. I want the overall diameter to keep the speedo on, but I'd like to have a little wider series tire. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

i have the same question????

with the tire calculator at top i figured the closest you can get is 195/60/15 the speedometer is .0650829... % too slow, so you probably wouldn't have to adjust the speedometer unless you were doing a hundred mph. but even then it would only be off by 6.5 mph. if you really want it to be exact you should take it to the dealership.

Would a 195/50/15 work on a 15x6.5????? What do the three numbers mean ?/?/?

The stock size would be 186/65-15. Since you're replacing the 14", then I think the 195/65 would be closets to stcok.
But instead, get some 15" rims with 205/50-15"s....that's what they call a "street setup".

Yes those will work, you could even go up to a 215/50-15"....the three numbers are the (205) width of tire.....(50) height of sidewall...and of coarse (15) for 15" rims....and i think they are all based on millimeters. So a 205/50/15 is a tire that is 205 mm wide, a 50 mm high sidewall, for a 15" rim. Hope that helps and doesn't confuse : )

thanks alot antidote!!!!

Hey man...no problemo !!

I could see this if there were a $$$ problem, but why would you just go with 15" over 14"'s anyways? Why would you not want a set of 17"s with a lower profile tire?

<< ...and i think they are all based on millimeters. So a 205/50/15 is a tire that is 205 mm wide, a 50 mm high sidewall, for a 15" rim. >>

the numbers are actually not all in millimeters
205/50/15 means 205 mm width, 50% of the width is the height, so the second number is actually a percentage of the width

did none of you read my first post... the tire calculator on the site figures all the difficult stuff for you. the only way you could do it without a speedometer adjustment is going with 195/60/15 and even that is off by .065%

remember, the lx stock tire is a 185/70/14 unlike the ex 185/65/15. even if you were to just put the ex wheels on your speedometer would be off.

here's my calculation

<< the speedometer is .0650829... % too slow... ...you were doing a hundred mph. but even then it would only be off by 6.5 mph >>

Ummm, .065% would only be about a half mile an hour difference @ 100mph.

...well $$$ is a factor. This is my GF's car, not mine. So she's the one making the decisions here. She found a nice looking set of American Racing 15's for dirt cheap. Otherwise, I would encourage her to go with the 17's myself.

how do you recalculate your speedometer and is it expensive????

Stylee01 01-08-2002 03:09 PM

Well I guess I'll start the hunt for some good 205/50/15 tires this week...

Stylee01 01-08-2002 03:48 PM

Well, I found some Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712's for a good price on Tirerack.com. Any comments on these tires?
