speedbump Clunk on passenger side.

06 civic LX. AT. 1.8

Helping a friend diagnosis his car. It has a faint clunk on bumps etc on the front passenger side. I took a look at it tonight. Swapbar links are good,cv axles good, balljoints are tight (did the 12 and 6 oclock wobble test). Control arm bushings seemed ok.

Im leaning towards the strut tower,or lower engine mount. I couldnt tell if the mount was bad,but the center of it looked a little wet inside where the little stub is above the mount. It had a "cut" in a circular motion around the stud. Normal? We took it around the block, ive never been in one so i didnt know how much vibration was normal, but i noticed very little. The dogbone part of the upper mount looked good.

Any help would be awesome.

Did you inspect the upper strut mount? Sounds like that could be the issue.

I didnt. It was getting late and we were in a busy apartment parking lot. All i could do with the strut was bounce the car up and down. No noises and the strut its self is still good and solid.

Also...Who thought it was a good idea of putting the upper mount of the strut up inside the windshield cowl? lol I noticed like a little square door. Do i pop that open to get access?

I don't own an 8th gen civic so I am not sure. That would be stupid though!

Not as stupid as having to remove the bumper to replace the battery like Chrysler does.

Well,he took it by the dealership to see what they thought.

Rear shocks are leaking fluid, and they believe the front strut is making the clunk. Mounts fine.

I'll be doing to work. We are going to have a shop swap the struts (i dont like springs lol) Im just removing and installing the parts onto the vehicle. The dealership said there was a trick to the rear ones..

whats the "trick"
