2004 honda civic ex gauge cluster works intermident

Hello I'm new to the Honda forum chat here, I have a 2004 Honda civic ex and my rpm and speedometer will work spiractickly, the rpm gauge stays around the number 8 even when the car is shut off but does move up and down when the car is moving like it should when switching gears, and the speedometer will work fine one min and while I'm driving at a consistent pace it will just fall to zero and stay there the gas and temp gauge work fine, I have been told by some it my be due to the extra cold winter we are having , I seen other postings saying the cluster is bad, so I bought a used one off of eBay and I want to know when I change them out will the odometer mile reading for the car as it is now show up on the swapped out cluster or what? and if it don't change can it be changed to reflect my mileage from my old cluster if this is even legal or possible?, any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum!
It's not really any kind of chatroom though.

The mileage is stored inside the cluster so you will see whatever mileage the other car had.

You can document the mileage on each (old cluster and new cluster) and do the math yourself AND keep track of this for the next owner when you sell the car. You may be able to get an official 'odometer mileage change' sticker from your local DMV or your dealership.

Or you can send the new cluster to a qualified speedometer repair shop to have the odometer reset to show your current mileage.

At work we send them to Palo Alto Speedometer http://www.paspeedo.com/
Call and inquire with them?

Pretty easy IMO. Get the plastic dash trims out of the way, then the unit is held in with 3 screws or so, and 2 big wire connectors.

Make sure you get a correct cluster (or at least compatible) for your car. There are probably a couple dozen variations.
Some can interchange easily, some can't swap without wiring hassles. Some versions might leave warning lights on, etc.
