Starter (i think) dead, something i should attempt to replace on my own?
 

I have a stock 09 civic LX. My starts have been taking longer and longer (nothing too long just not kicking in right away) for the past few weeks. The other day it flat out stopped starting. My neighbor did a volt test on the battery and said it was fine. He tried to get under there and strike the starter to see if it would start but said it was in a weird spot without him fully jacking up the car to a better height. anyhow, its not that expensive of a part, but im sure id get raped on labor if i went somewhere. I'm not a grease monkey by any means, and am basically seeing if this is something i should leave to a mechanic and suck up the labor cost or if its safe to replace on my own thanks :)

How many miles? It MIGHT be covered under the powertrain warranty 5 years/60,000 mi. If you are within the limits of the warranty, it's certainly worth asking about it.


Starter is tucked between the block and intake.
Instructions say the front exhaust pipe has to come out, then the support bracket on the intake manifold, then the wiring must be taken off all its brackets, take out the 2 bolts on the starter, now you can remove the wiring form the starter....... and "it comes right out".

I can't clearly remember doing a starter by itself, and I can't remember how it came out for me. Been too long. Sure don't do them every day LOL.
