Help Troubleshooting Power Windows (Honda Civic 2001)
 

Hi there guys, I am new to this board and recently discovered it via google search.

If you don't want to read through a lot of background infor, please skip to the bolded 'So Basically'

I read through a lot of posts regarding the removal of a door and replacement of power window assembly which was incredibly helpful, but (something I figured out after hours of work) was somewhat unneeded.

The passenger side window on my civic 01 is not working, and so is the rear left side window. I took apart the door on both troubled windows and applied power directly to the window motors, via the two wires that connect the window to the driverside window switch, and the 5-pin wire that connects the window to the doors window switch. Both motors would raise and lower the window without any issues (to my pleasure! :D).

So I currently think that the problem has something to do with the driverside window switch, or the wires leading to it.
I took the door apart and removed the switch that controls the windows.

I am trying to manually send power from the battery to the window motor like I did for the other windows, to get one of the 'broken' windows to move. Unfortunately, I am unsure which wires to add power to.

So basically, I need help reading the following schematic diagram, If someone could tell me which wires to connect in order to get the passenger side and rear left window to move, It would be greatly appreciated and would help me tremendously in the troubleshooting process.

Make sure the other (individual window) switches are in place when testing and it looks to me like...at the master connector BLU/RED and BLU/WHT = right front. And BRN/WHT and BRN = left rear.

So if I connect one terminal of the battery to the BLU/RED and one terminal to the BLU/WHT the right front window should move (I'll test and then switch polarities to make sure the window is getting power or not) right?

Yes, this should be a safe test. You may need to reverse polarity to get it to move. The individual door switches jumper the voltage provided from the master switch to the motor unless they are doing the switching.

OK, I connected blu/red and blu/wht to the battery and the passenger side window moved!

Now I'm wondering, do you think the driver side window switch needs to be replaced? Is that whats causing the other passenger side window not to roll down?
I proved that if given a voltage directly to the passenger side and driver side window switches, the passenger side window rolls down, so the motor and connections are fine (right?).

P.S. I did the same connection (blu/red to blu/wht) with a single wire, so that it acted as a switch and the window did not move, does this mean there is a problem with the wiring from the battery to the driverside switch? or is this not enough information to determine that? I made another connection and i got sparks (temp short circuit) so I'm guessing some of the wires from the battery to the driverside switch asome sort of problem?

Please give me any further suggestions and any input

I would measure for voltage, you should have + - or - + on those wires mentioned (polarity will depend on if up or down is chosen) that voltage will go to the individual door switch and should go through the switch (when in resting position) and to the motor.

You may have a bad switch or broken wire.
