New Engine,Poor gas milage

Hello, I'm new to this so I'm not sure I'm even in the right spot. I was looking for something that says "post new thread" but couldn't finf it..
Anyways, I own a 1998 Honda civic EX. I recently changed out the engine. It had a V tec motor in it and I put a 1.7 (not a Vtec) back in it. Tha engine I put in it has about 80,000 km on it. the gas milage is terrible now. I went from 45-50 mpg to 30-40. Should I have changed the computer on board as well to match the engine?
Thanks
Eric

I don't think you have to change the ECU but it has to atleast be re-flashed but I am not sure. Since the old one had the VTEC it is possible you need a whole new one.

You need a new ecu. Maybe run some cleaner through it. Like seafoam.
