Amplifier popped and started smoking
 

for the last couple days my speakers were making a very high pitched sound even when i had the volume completely down. I dont know if that relates the the problem or not, but that is what ws going on. On my way home today i heard a faint poof and smelled smoke, turned around and saw my amplifier smoking. Luckily i was nearly home and aired it out right away. I am just wondering why this happened and how I could possibly fix it. I have a JBL bpx500.1 amp and 2 12" Kicker CompVRs. Thanks for the help!

Is the high pitch sound from the sub, or the speakers? Do you have a 4ch. too? Disconnect your amp from the power side and see if it still happens. Subs shouldn't replicate anything above like 600hz or so. FYI that's low. If it's still there check your grounds, especially if it gets worse with reving or the engine on.

It could be your wiring from the battery. I blew my amp because of my crappy wiring. Also, the high pitched whine is prolly feedback caused by your wiring being too close
What size power cables are you running and brand name?

Are you signal RCA's run down the same side as the Power for the amplifier? If they are split them up and run them down different sides of the car. Also make sure that your RCA's aren't touching or grounding anywhere, especially behind the head unit.
