Amp blowing fuses
 

I recently installed a 15" 4 ohm + 4 ohm dual voice coil speaker (1,200 watts) with 1,000 watt amp...I had the speaker hooked up to one channel and was'nt getting enough power out of it so I bridged and now it keeps blowing fuses(in the amp)...The amp says it is 1,000 x 1 max at 4 ohm bridged...when i hooked up the speaker in the box I ran a set of speaker wire from each voice coil and ran them into the one outlet coming out of the speaker box...am i even able to bridge it like this???I assumed the problem was my ground so I undid everything sanded it down really well and it did not help...any advice?

How did you have your dual voice coils wired?
Is your amp 2 ohm MONO stable or 2 ohm stereo stable?

if you went from the + on each speaker to the + on the speaker box, and the same with the - terminals, then you're running the DVC's in parallel and your amp is seeing 2ohms. basically, you're trying to make the amp do twice what it's rated for, it's saying "no" and blowing the fuses. you need to come from the speaker box + to the first coil +, then a jumper wire from the - on the first to the + on the second coil. then a wire from the - on the second back to the - on the speaker box. that will put them in series at an 8 ohm load. this will also cut the output of your amp to probably around 500w. is there away around this reduction? no. you can either get an amp that's 2ohm stable in bridged mono, or add another speaker. even if you add another speaker, wire them up in series-parallel, each speaker will still only get 500w. so really the only way to increase what the speaker gets is to buy a bigger amp. i doubt you need it though. 500w is plenty for a civic. i'm only running 150w for my 12" Kicker and it's more than enough. here' a diagram of what i described above:
