so I got my alpine type r 12" 1222d today... dvc dual 2 ohm. I had a svc audiobahn. My amp is the rockford fosgate p5002 500x1 @ 4ohm / 250 x 2 @ 2 ohm

When I hooked everything up, my amp kept shutting off within one or 2 seconds...getting extremely hot. Finally diagnosed the problem. I had wired it incorrectly, wiring it in the 2 outside pos and neg terminals (thus making it bridged) instead of using just one side the left or right.....

finally got her pushing....sounds great! will post pics and review later

some pictures of the install and some other randoms....

working well now that I have it hooked up right....it kept shutting off since it was bridged and not wired properly... "haste makes waste!"

looks good. simple and to the point, just how I like it. How do you like running one 12? I am currently running a pair of 10s and am thinking of goin to a single 12, mainly for space constraints. im tired of only having half a trunk.

single 12 is what I have always had...... the reason I love it so much is really that box......that thing is crazy...it will make any sub sound great

you had it in parallel (1 ohm load which is why you about fried your amp). you want it in series for 4ohm load. you need to use both sets of connections for that, not just one. + from amp to + on one coil. then that to the - on the 2nd coil. + on the 2nd coil to - on the first coil, then back to - on the amp. don't run the sub without both coils connected!!!! you'll damage it.

can anyone tell me why I can hear a high pitched ringing sound comming from the woofer if I get my ear close to enough to it? as soon as I turn off my cd player it goes away...whats with that?

the amp has that line and says bridged on it....i do not actually have something connected...I am just showing you what the amp terminals look like....

yes thats right, but you need to bridge it on your amp. your + should go the far left

The way you have it hooked up now your only getting 250W, you need to bridge it to get 500W

you use the outside terminals on the amp like i told you in the PM's. by using only the left or only the right, you're getting 125w from the amp for both coils. you need to use the outside terminals (and neither of the 2 inside ones) in order to get the 500w output from the amp. make sure you are connected up on ALL 4 terminals on the speaker like option 2 shows above.

I am connected ti the sub exactly as pictures...however if I hook it up to the amp like you said (bridged) it will shut off within seconds and get extremely hot. Which is weird because my previous sub was hooked up to those terminals, it was a svc sub though.....what is going on?

well I am pretty sure I just fried the amp.....it shut off smoked for aabout 1 second...I could smell it....and I checked in the engine bay and saw that the main fuse blew from the battery....so I am hoping that it cut the power before any damage could be done...what do you think the chances are that the amp is still ok?

then you have the sub hooked up wrong. that's the only possible explanation. the only way you could have fried it is if you have it hooked up like option 1.

you need to post a CLEAR picture of how you connected the wires on your sub. i know it's already in the box, but if you want more help on this, you're going to need to do some more work. i'm betting on you hooked it up like #1 and not #2. #2 would run fine and #1 would overdrive your amp and possibly short it out. how many wires are on your sub? option 1 involves 4 wires. option 2 has 3 wires. see the difference? how many do you have?

i have 3...option 2 for sure....
what happened was me messing with the wires on the amp..i accidentally eaither revered polarity or touched something and it shut off and blew the fuse at the battery....now I wondering if the amp is fried...or can i just buy another fuse be ok

good lesson learned......never make any wiring changes with power on. did you try to replace the fuse yet?

already replaced the fuse...the amp doesn;t even turn on now....i was hoping that it was a simple part thatneeds replaced...but I think I should look for a new amp....

I just realized that the amp is in protect mode and tries to turn on how do I get it out of the protect mode

it goes on protect mode if the ground is bad, check all your connections

man this kinda happened to me. i had my 2 jl 12w0-4s hooked up in parallel to my 2 channel amp bridged at 4ohms. This caused a 2ohm load. Everytime my subs would hit hard my amp would die. Figured out the problem. Somehow i didnt fry my amp. Im so lucky. Ended up unplugging all the wires from it and lettin it sit for a few hours then rewiring the subs properly then hooking up power wires then turnin it on and it worked fine and im usin a crappy amp. That alpine is awesome. Its massive. But i say go JL or go home lol.
