Rear speakers

Ok, i just installed some new speakers in my 01. They were some pioneer A6971Rs. They are in, and they work, but they are very quiet. I was wondering if i did somethign wrong with the install, if that may be just the way the speakers are.

I was wondering if it has to do with power output to the speakers. I'm currently using the stock CD player, and these speakers will take 300w. Will they work better when i get a new cd player? or should i look at a small amp for them?

switch the leads, as in, switch the wires around. Common mistake

Ashhole 02-25-2007 05:38 PM

so i shouldnt have connected the wires with the black lines from the speakers to the same ones from the car?

Did you use a speaker harness for the install or just tap into the wires at the rears?

If you tapped confirm they agree with this:

left rear
+ blue/white
- blue/black

right rear
+ pink
- blue/yellow

If that is all correct it probably just isn't enough power for the aftermarket 6x9s.

rice4lyfe 02-25-2007 05:48 PM

there should be only 2 wires that you either cut and connected to the wires that came with your speakers

(in this case, just switch the wires around so opposite of what you have right now)
or
you used an adapter.
(you shouldnt have a problem here)

Ashhole 02-25-2007 05:50 PM

tapped the rear wires.

now for the speakers, the black/white and the whites are which?

rice4lyfe 02-25-2007 05:51 PM

they should only fit one on each side of the speaker output. Switch whatever combination you have right now

rice4lyfe 02-25-2007 05:52 PM

as in...where you tapped each wire, not the speaker connection

christmaspie 02-25-2007 06:46 PM

White is likely positive and white/black is likely negative.

I got the same speakers (only in 6 1/2's) and they are very quiet as well and they are wired correctly. I have an aftermarket HU as well. I think we both need an amp.

yep to both of you. i put in some infinity reference 6012's and had to adjust the fade to make the front and rear level and i'm running an aftermarket HU with 52x4 output. almost any aftermarket speaker will sound weak unless you amp them.

Given the specs I gave you in the sub box post for my after market HU and the specs for my speakers (my 6 1/2 are only 220W though) any good recmmendations on a decent amp that won't break the bank? I'm looking for better sound, not an award winning sound system.

electric130 02-26-2007 02:01 PM

go with a cheap kicker 4 ch off ebay. you don't need much. 50RMS off an amp will be stronger than 50 off a HU.

drivlikustoleit 02-26-2007 02:30 PM

Sounds good to me, I'll take your word for it. After that, I'm gonna start on my subs. Got my whole interior torn out right now... lot's of stuff is going on with the car here and there, lol. Thanks for the advice.

well it was wired up right, so it looks like im goin with an amp. just to be sure, is it possible to hook an amp in with the stock HU?

yeah, you just need to find an amp with speaker level inputs. about 50% of amps out there will have them.
