nothing cool or fancy about mine, but it's practical, sounds great and i still have plenty of trunk space. SVC 12" Kicker Comp with Kenwood 320W amp. speaker is new, enclosure is about 6 years old. oh yeah, trunk is dirty too :giggle:

I have no idea how much air volume there is, but their 2 Kaption SPL-1200's 600 rms/1200 peak each...with a tantrum 1200.1 amp giving about 1400 watts, and a Pheonix gold cap as well...there's A LOT of bass.

By air volume he means the volume (dimensions) of the box. It looks like it's probably a 1.5cf per side, possibly 2.

I'll try and find my digital camera and get my set-up posted.

How does that sound with the speaks facing inward on a sealed box? I know on a bandpass it doesnt matter, but ive never tried it with a sealed. Does it sound better than facing outward or just different?

There's more air space when you do it this way. Whether or not it sounds better depends on the box/woofer setup.

Most people do it because it looks 'cool'.

Jasdip 02-11-2007 05:30 PM

I don't know how different it would sound if they were pointed outwards, since this is the first and only system and setup I had in my car...but the system POUNDS...it has soo much bass that it hurts ur ears if you sit inside with it turned up...I got dynamat on the trunk lid and trunk floor, behind the liscence plate, and I put some foam stuff under my rear deck...inside, it sounds totally clean...outside theres a bit rattle (trunk flexing, which I can't find any way to stop), but for the amount of bass I get, I would say theres almost no rattle on the outside...it was professionally installed, sounds sweet, tons of bass, I love it!

you'll regret doing that too much in a few years. don't damage your hearing, you'll never get it back.

Jasdip 02-11-2007 11:22 PM

I think I already messed up my right ear a bit...after this car, i'm done with systems...got my jollys out, I don't wanna be half deaf....gonna get rid of the car in a year prob n get somethin new..

btw.. you got the subs wired backwards. unless you reversed the phase at the amp already.

looks like the same +/- on both speakers.

Jasdip 02-12-2007 03:46 AM

I dunno how to tell if it's wired backwards, but it was professionally installed so i'm guessing it should be right...is there any difference in the sound when they are reversed? I believe one set of +/- on each sub go to the amp and one set connect to eachother (this is how u make it 2ohm?)...

without seeing the amp, it's hard to say how it's wired there. your subs are DVC wired in series. so if they were 4ohms per coil, each sub would be 8ohms. even if you paralleled them from there, it would be a single 4 ohm load on the amp.

best i can tell without closeups of the speakers showing polarity, here's the polarity:
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/a...1&d=1171275569

to make all 4 coils in parallel, you'd need to do this:

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/a...1&d=1171275569

if you have 4ohm coils, running all them in parallel will be a 1ohm load. if they're 8ohm coils, then you'll get 2 ohms. if they're 4ohm, series-parallel, they'll be a 4ohm load at the amp. if they're 8 ohm series-parallel, they'll be an 8ohm load at the amp. check the polarity of the connections on the subs. if they're the way i drew them in the first pic, then you don't have a 2ohm setup.

Jasdip 02-12-2007 03:23 PM

Well, my subs have dual 2-ohm voice coils...and the way you indicated the connections are correct...so that would mean that I am wired at 4-ohms? If yes, would it be better for me if i were to wire it at 2-ohms (I have a tantrum 1200.1 amp)?...also, if a picture of the connections on the amp side would help, I can get a picture of it...thanks man..

with them being 2 ohm coils, if they're wired with both + wires together and both - wires together on the amp, then you're at 2 ohms total which is correct. you don't see many 2 ohm speakers.

Jasdip 02-12-2007 08:28 PM

I'll check the amp side later on, but they are 2-ohm subs for sure..thank for the info!

I doubt that whole piece is a sub enclosure. More like a cover that attaches on front of the box to make it look cleaner and not see a mess of wires and amps.

hvc 02-13-2007 07:07 AM

I'm positive it is impossible to wire two DVC 2-ohm subs at 4ohms. You have a choice between 8ohms, 2ohms, and .5ohms. .5ohms will blow up your amp, so avoid that one. So your choice is between 8 ohms and 2ohms, i'd recommend two.

Wire it like this (the way electric130 stated):

Good call... Didn't even think about that. When I get home I'll take some more pix.
