Scca

I'm currently looking into rims for scca. Not sure what would be the best set up with a 1.5 drop all around. Looking at 16"-17" rims. Other than my stock steelies. Any information would help a lot.

State car year/model?

Class would help as well, since wheel allowance is different depending on class.

If you running stock, aka street class, you will be bumped to another tougher class just by the 17".

What class do you plan on running? It's on scca rule book.

he already has a 1.5 drop so he'll be in "fwc street prep." won't he?

Re: Scca

You'll be looking at a few factors

tire compound: if you're running R compound racing tires then tire width is still needed but less so and they will handle heat cycles better.

aspect ratio (height of tire shoulder): A low tire shoulder gives less tire roll while cornering.

rim size: obviously the size of the rim will play a large factor in rim weight, which effects the efficiency of your power.

I run 215/45/17 all-season tires, and track pretty fast. My last race I ran 55seconds and a 2015 stingray ran 50s. I did find that I was loosing grip in the rear and that my tires after running hot started to loose further grip.

on the small side I've seen some pretty fast civics run 205/40/13's with R tires.

The sweet spot is probably 215/55/14 or something like that.

The only reason I run such large rims is that I think 13-16 look too small, lol, nothing to do with performance.

I don't think 13s will fit over the brakes on the 01-05+.

A rear camber kit is cheap and does amazing things for lowered civics, for grip.

Additionally, some could fit 225, but very few. One member?
215 seem to be limit for not rolling fenders and such. So wheel width should fit that size, given scca rules restrictions (if any).

Can't remember recommended offset for these... stock is +38

Re: Scca

Wouldn't where I live also play a factor in how fast my tires heat up? I live in Hawaii it's pretty dam hot on the days they have scca. I know about the tire ratings, But the factor in considering is that I'm looking into 16"-17" rims with a rating of 15 pounds per rim. Just asking more info from fellow members about preferred size between the two. I know with the 17" the car may have to push more mass but has that effected their time?

Re: Scca

can't say... very few running the 7th gen in autoX, I have only used 16x7 on 205/55R16...
MAC already were in 17" when he started?
