Very basic brake pad changing questions?
 
Just getting into car repair (been only detailing the car for about a yr now) so I have two questions. What and where can I get a caliper to measure rotor and pad thickness? Also, I see Honda has a disk brake spreader for $100, which is outrageous. Do y'all use a small c-clamp or something else that works better with Civics?

Just get the $5 c-clamp, but get a big one (7 or 8-inch) to compress the pistons. I wouldn't worry about pad thickness, just eyeball that. For the caliper, head on over to Wal-mart and pick one up. You want a Vernier caliper like this one:
