2005 Corolla S 5-speed w/sunroof Versus 2005 Civic EX SE
 
At the moment I am looking to upgrade from my 2001 Honda Civic LX MTX Coupe. With gas prices at $4.09 for regular (I live in the boonies) I am looking for a fuel efficient car and since I only have about 13K I obviously can't afford an 8th gen (at least not an EX with a clean title). With that being said, do y'all think it would be smarter to go with a 2005 Corolla S 5-speed w/sunroof or a 2005 Civic EX Special Edition: both with around 50,000 miles. I am not looking to modify either cars at all, but I would like for my new car to be just a little faster than my 2001 LX which is absolutely horrible on hills.

I am not asking for you to choose for me, but I would like for you guys to give me your unbiased opinions on both cars (I know, it's probably hard to be unbiased) so as to give me perhaps some different perspectives.

05 corolla - good on gas - chain timing belt, more quicker than the civic..

GF has a 04 corolla great on gas compare to my 03 civic lx coupe...

the ex will feel a bit faster than th lx since it has 12 more hp + shorter gear ratios. look to get close to the same gas mileage your getting now. But Toyotas have a reputation for being stylistically challenged isolationmobiles. hondas are known to be more drivers cars with revving engines, lots of road noise, and more direct steering. so basically, do you want a mini-me lexus or a mini-me rsx?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I just went into town and drove both cars. (the Corolla S and the EX both 5-speeds) The Corolla felt slightly faster than the EX but it was hard to tell as both cars were neither that impressive in acceleration. As I have mentioned I am not looking for speed, just enough to get up hills without too much struggle (my LX is too slow). Both felt signifcanlty faster than my old 2001 LX, however. On wednesday I plan to make my buying decison. Any major reliability issues with either car that you know of? Thanks again.

both cars are well into (if not finished) with their run so pretty much no reliability issues.
