Sell, donate, or fix up my 96 Hatchback?

Hello, Forum, I'm glad I found you.

We have a '96 black Civic hatchback with ONLY 148K miles on it. I LOVE that these 5-speeders are so comfortable, roomy, and SPUNKY--with the best window views all around I've ever experienced.

We just paid $800 for tune-up, new tires, minor fixes, etc., and I
only hope to sell it for $1,000-$1,200 to get some money out of it. But what if I wanted to restore it and drive it for another 100,000 miles? It needs a complete new paint job (I'm thinking of something sassy like metallic turquoise for this hip granny), a little body work, maybe new upholstery, CD player and radio, and AC (which at present doesn't work at all). Timing belt was replaced at 91K. Neither my husband nor I are mechanics so we would have to purchase all these services.

What do you think? Would it be worth the investment? And do you have any idea how much that investment would be? Thanks a lot!
