Oil level on dipstick a little more than 1/8" over

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I just changed the oil in my 94 Civic EX. I put about 3.5 quarts in it and now the dipstick is reading a little over an 1/8" over the hole for the full mark. Should I try and drain a little off or will this be ok. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Regards,

Steve

will probably be okay, esp since some of it may burn off after driving. if it were me, i would drain a bit. did you check the level after you changed the oil/filter, drove the car, then let it sit overnight?

I got nervous and drained some off. Still need to check in the morning. Thanks.

A little over filled like that wont hurt one bit. Im currently running a stock f22 in the racecar im driving and we run it a half quart over. We dont have any leaks or smoke from it.

You would have been fine.

if you have an older car that burns some oil, its better to overfill a hair so you can go longer before the next oil change. its not good to be constantly adding new oil all the time because it changes the composition. and new oil has compounds that flash off and can ruin your cat if you constantly have to add oil. if you can make it at least 5k miles without adding oil you should be good. remember the min line is still in the good range that doesnt cause damage. but you should be checking the level often to make sure it doesnt drop below min.
