Timing belt failure = poor accelaration?

Hi, our timing belt went on a 95 civic. when we got it replaced the car is idleing rough and has very poor pick up and zero power on an incline. Odd, as it was very zippy before.

Any thoughts on this? Poor timing? The belt being off a tooth or two (the mechanic didn't seem to really know this job, it took him 13 hours....) or perhaps a bent valve?

We may bring it back to him in the morning. But hesitant he may make it worse... any info would be helpful... thank you.

usually a timing belt failure will cause engine damage. im sure you have low compression and probably bent valves requiring the motor to be torn apart for rebuild. its prolly cheaper to swap in another motor.

Find a replacement motor and swap it in.
