89 Civic Alternator help needed!

Hi - I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a couple tips.

I'm removing the alternator from my 89. Got nuts/bolts off, got wires off on back of the alternator. But I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the pin out of the bottom of the alternator. I'm at a point where the alternator swings loosely, and I can see the pin/bolt moving as I swing the alternator. But, how do you push that bolt/pin through to get it out.

I took the front driver side wheel off, and the shroud for the crankcase off to get at the alt since it's in such a difficult spot. Just can't get that pin out.

Any ideas? Am I missing something easy?

thanks much

Find a slightly smaller diameter shaft (a five inch long bolt should do) compared to the diameter of the bolt (larger shaft) used on the alternator. Punch out the alternator bolt using the smaller diameter five inch long bolt (hammer required). The smaller diameter bolt should be easy to take out by pulling it with a vice grip plier.

Not sure, but perhaps replace the alternator brush(s) and your alternator should work again. The brushes are attached to one end of the rotor shaft (where the wire connectors are on that end). You can identify it by its orange colored rubber cover. Three nuts to un-screw and un-capped the silver painted metal cover of the alternator of that end.
