Swaping a '97 d16y7non vtech into a '98 d16y8 vtec
 

Wanting to know what my best options are for placing the d16y7 engine in place of the d16y8 vtech will be. Can I use the vtech fuel intake manifold on the y7 non vtech head?

Did the original blow up?
You're going to need a different ecu, engine harness, 02 sensors are in different places, etc.
If the y8 head is ok I would just swap the y7 block in. Way simpler
Make sure the head is clean

The 97 is a DX hatchback and the auto transmission began giving me trouble but the engine has been well maintained and runs strong. It's been in family since new. I was tired of putting $ into it and debating what to do with it.

A few months ago I ran across a slick 98 EX with a bad engine but nice interior and body. The owner said it had jumped time and bent some valves. I gave 400 for it, figuring I could use my 97 engine in it.

I just began pulling the 98 EX engine but before I cannibalize the 97 I realized the difference between the two. I thought this was going to be a simple swap but saw it was time to find out what I should consider at this point.

This is why I first had considered the combination. Since the vtech engine needs to come out anyway another thought came to mind. That is to pull the vtech head and see how bad the damage really is and try to figure cost of repairing it vs converting the 97 engine to work in it's place.

Just pull the head and replace the bent valves
