97 LX with 154k - a Good First Civic?

Hey all,

I'm brand new to all this. I'm in college in Connecticut and need a car that can get me home and back (to VT), as well as just around town, and have been thinking a Civic could be a good move: low cost of ownership, easy to play with, readily available parts - am I missing anything?

I found a 97 LX with 154k on it on Craigslist and wanted to know your guys' thoughts on it. As a beginner to cars, (I've worked a good bit on motorbikes), and Honda's in particular, I don't know what to be looking for, but would love to learn. What are your thoughts on this particular car? Anything I should keep an eye out for if I test drive it? I'm obviously trying to keep it within a fairly tight budget, but if you have any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them, too.

Thanks so much. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Looks beat up but not so bad otherwise for the age. Besides test-driving it, you're gonna want a history report and an approximate date when the timing belt was replaced. The more detailed the service record, the better.
