V-tec not kicking?
 
I have a 97 honda civic ex sedan. I checked my vin number and it does have a vtec...but why wont it kick in? Isnt it supposed to at around 5000 rpms and youll clearly be able to hear it kick in?


Im pretty new to cars and such so dont rip me apart please...

If its low on oil it won't work.

Most average people won't notice it kick in.
There is only a little bit of change in sound when it does.

If it doesn't work, like because of low oil, then trouble code(s) are set.

Its not low on oil. Im very good about maintenance.

It's only really noticeable if you're flooring it with the windows open and you're ears cleaned out :) There is a slight change in sound.
On a K-Series engine, the changeover is pretty loud and noticeable, but not so much the B's or D's.
If it isn't working, the best explanation is oil trouble, be it not enough oil, or you're long overdue for a change. Without proper oil temp & pressure, the V-Tec can't properly switch over
