Lowering Questions. Please help :) Hey guys, so I have no Idea where to start. I am usually pretty good with most things when working on the car, but suspension is a whole different story for me, no idea what I need. Basically I want to lower my 2000 Civic. From what I have read I would like to pick up some coilovers and springs so I can adjust the height. I have a budget of about 250 or so, but I am willing to pay more if needed. So: 1. What do i need to get, just Coilovers/Springs or do i Need something more. 2. When it comes to installing them, should I go to a garage to get them to do it, or is there any DIY out there ( I am assuming you need some machinery for it). Also what will it cost me. 3. After installing them how hard is it to adjust the height. |
Re: Lowering Questions. Please help :) First off I am pretty sure it's going to cost you a lot more than $250 especially if you have a shop do the work. Use the search engine there is a DIY, install is pretty easy and you can do it. Ground controls are the best coilover (around $340) to use with stock shocks but if you lower it you will eventually blow your stock shocks out and will need new shocks. So to do it right you would need coilovers and new shocks designed to be lowered and thats going to be a minimum of $500 to 600 with cheap coilovers and cheaper shocks. |
Re: Lowering Questions. Please help :) Sorry to tell you but coilovers are not that cheap. I think the cheapest I seen brand new was 800. Most of them are 1000. When you get coilovers you get the springs to. The only thing you do not get is the top mounts which you can use your stock ones. And installing coilovers is easy. The only thing you need is a simple socket set. |

Please help :) Yeah If you are talking full coilover yeah around a $1,000, I just suggested the Ground control's as the cheapest decent setup but even they are going to be close to $800 with decent shocks & can get real pricey (1K or more) if you go with Koni yellows or something like that. |

After installing them how hard is it to adjust the height. if u save ur money and get the coilovers, which is far better, than buying new shocks 1200-1500 and then springs on top of that 150 200 each. you will save alot more money on coilovers for 1200, and u can adjust height damping and sometimes camber aswell. adjusting height is as simple as twisting the bottom of the tube, with wheel off and not attached to the arms. But yes need alot more than 250 |
Re: Lowering Questions. Please help :) Haha yea i figured. At this point I was looking at a used set of tein's from a friend, im pretty sure that was not the shocks. Just coilovers/springs. Either way, Not even sure its worth lowering the car at this point lol. Might just wait till I buy a new car. Thanks for all the help tho, appreciate the input. I do love a lowered ride tho :( |

Please help :) just lowered my car on konis and bouncy ride atleast in the front but im talking a 4 inch drop, if your doing it your self id recommend having a torch as the bolts tend to get seized in the bushings and snap happened to me wasnt fun, other then that lowering ti will prolly take about 2 - 3 hours assuming it all goes well, also a spring compression tool could come in handy unless you have a big area to release your stock springs, and a shop in canada quote is about 600 - 1000 depending on how it goes. plus parts |

Really ? I found some Tein springs as well. I was thinking about just installing them with the stock shocks i have. Thye are a minor drop 1.3" front/1.1" rear and i can get a good price on them. Anyone have any words on this? Good idea ? Its still high enough that it shouldnt be too hard on the suspension I wouldnt think. |
