Irregular idle (rpm fluctuates) when on park gear and brakes applied

Hello,

This is my first post on civic forums. Happy New Year!!!!!

I have a 2000 Honda Civic HX with automatic transmission. For the past 3 months I have a problem with my Civic.

1)When I am say at a traffic signal, waiting for the signal to change green, brakes applied, the rpm fluctutates a lot from 1000 rpm to about 400rpm and it seems the engine is going to shut off. This happens whenever the brakes are applied on any of the gears.

2) Another issue is a clattering noise from the right side when I start driving in the morning. It gains noise when I accelerate and also when I make a turn. Later, say in about 5-10 minutes it goes off.

Recently, I changed my spark plugs, rotor, distributor cap, electrical plugs to the spark plugs, did an oil change, changed the valve cover gasket (there was a minor oil change), air filter, cleaned the throttle body valve and changed the gasket as well.

Couldn't reach to the IAC valve though for cleaning. The rpm fluctuation and clattering noise is still there. Please help me out of this issue, this has been killing me for long!!!!!!!! Could it be the alternator? Please give me your suggestions and recommendations.

Thanks a lot!!!!

i had that problem with a mitsubishi eclipse and my friend just stuck a screwdriver somewhere in the engine and twisted something and it stopped immediatly.

My guess on idle fluctuation is definitely the idle air control valve. The clattering is best found by using a mechanic's stethoscope and finding precisely where the noise is generated.
