Time to sell 2005 civic (price value ?)

Upgraded to a newer car this past weekend. Time to sell the old car. 2005 Honda civic VP sedan with 131,000 miles. Upgraded electrical (275amp alternator and AGM battery). Stereo upgraded as well (Bluetooth headunit, amplifier door speakers, volt meter). Tires and brakes both have about 15,000 on them. Belts/waterpump/oil seals done at 90k, fuel pump and power steering seals replaced in low 100k.

I've been looking at used values the last couple of weeks and talking to mechanics and they seem to think this car still has decent value.

They all basically said there's not enough drive-able cars under $5000 which is why my car is still in decent demand. They said for that price it's mostly cars 2002-2007. Most american cars/kia's are basically undriveable regardless of miles at that age and most of the Japanese cars that old either had younger kids tear them up or have well over 150,000 miles.

They seem to think I could get $4k USD no problem for it. Sounds crazy considering I only paid $7,000 for it 8.5 years ago. Anybody on this forum have any input or suggestions on what to ask and whats realistic ?

Thank You

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay!

What is KBB for it? Check CL and eBay for other similar cars that have sold. $4k does not sound unreasonable for a Civic with that low of mileage (area play's a big part). Was the timing belt included in that belts maintenance?

Live in DFW. Huge metroplex (just over 7 million people). Timing belt was done same time as drive-train belts/waterpump (90K mile mark)

The only thing worse than trying to buy a car on Craigslist is trying to sell a car.

Your gonna ask for 4K, they are going to either offer $500, or they will offer 4K plus extra $500 if you take their check and allow their courier to pick it up.

IMO you would be lucky to get $2000 and that is if you get it certified first, selling it as is you will get much less,

Upgrades and mods dont increase the value of a car much, in most cases they decrease it

use KBB (Kelley Blue Book site)
be honest about the condition of car.

I know better than to use craigslist. Ads will be placed on Nextdoor, Facebook marketplace, and autotrader/kbb.

$2000 would be over 200k miles or salvage title.

I agree that most mods don't increase value (especially performance engine mods) but having bluetooth/speakers that don't sound like crap and not having to worry about electrical upgrades on a near 15 year old car are both at least worth mentioning in the listing.......

Thank you. The ad price to list on KBB and autotrader isn't bad so i'll make sure to post an ad there
