05 Civic Hybrid Transmission fluid change / flush question

Hi,

I picked up a 05 Hybrid that had a few issues. I needed struts, lower balls joints, control arms and a mount. Got the car for $4500 with 135K miles with a new hybrid battery installed.

The trans does shudder a little from takeoff. The CVT fluid is dark and I want to go ahead and do the CVT drain and fill.

Would it be worth it to go ahead drain and fill with the exact amount that comes out of the drain plug. Then disconnect the oil cooler line at the transmission and start the car and drain out 1 quart at a time until the fluid runs like new?

if so my question is which side is the return line?

I would drain and fill the trans 2, 3, or 4 times, whatever you feel is necessary......rather than try to figure out and open up cooler lines.

This post contains a copy of Hondas published recommendation: http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/...html#post13701

Note this was published several years ago for automatic transmissions, and the fluid type Z1is now obsolete.

You can use this info as a guide for servicing the CVT trans safely, just be sure to use the correct Honda CVT fluid.

Most of those shudder upon takeoff, fluid service may or may not help. Keep your fingers crossed.

when you draining fluid you have to fill up at the same time because you can end up running the transmission without fluid .for that reason honda doesn't recommend flush. The line that enter further from the radiator is the return. The transmission pump is in the front. Be careful
