Need a lower temperature thermostat I have a 2005 Civic LX. It is used a lot in stop & go driving. During the summer, with the A/C on, the temperature creeps up too much. I would like to know if there is a thermostat available which operates at about 10 deg lower than the OEM. |
Re: Need a lower temperature thermostat If you have a problem that you think can be cured with a lower temp thermostat, you have a problem that cannot be cured by a lower temp thermostat. You either have a normal situation that you don't want to understand/accept, or you have a real problem that needs a real fix. A lower temp stat cannot solve your problem. Is the radiator full? There is no overkill designed into the system for lost coolantcapacity. Is the radiator cap (and radiator) good and will hold 15 PSI (or whatever the rating is)? Do both radiator fans work correctly? Are the radiator and condenser clean, free of bugs dirt and sand, and do they both freely flow plenty of air through their fins? 150,000 miles worth of bugs can block a LOT of air flow. What is the true coolant temperature reading as shown by the engine computer in a datalist at the time your gauge shows "creeps up too much"? 170-220*F is acceptable, depending on loads and conditions. |
