A/C Belt squeal!!!

Okay, so as I pull into the state emissions and inspections place to get my car done my battery light comes on! Come to find out it is my regulator in my alternator (wont charge below 3400 rpm), and my battery too (Bad cell)! Anyway, I get me a batt. and and Alt., put it in get it all set up, start the car and my a/c was on before I shut the car down, I hear this blood curddling squeal! I go back in and tighten the crap out of the a/c belt 3 different times and it is still squealing at high rpm's. How the hell do I stop this!!!:hithead:

Is the belt maybe just bad? How long has it been on the car? Sometimes if they are old enough they aren't the same after you take them off.

Isnt there only 3 belts we have?

The power steering one, timimg and the ac, alt and serpentine are all in one.

Re: A/C Belt squeal!!!

how tight is tighten the crap? i was working on my girlfriend's '04 EX and the power steering/water pump belt is tight as crap, as in almost no deflection at all, so i would imagine that the thicker belt for the alternator/air conditioning would be the same if not tighter. and in my experience OEM belts are generally thicker and stiffer than the Gates/NAPA counterpart. Gates probably make the belts for NAPA and a lot of manufacturers but the specs are a little different. so i guess gradually tighten it til the squeel stops

go buy some belt conditionion spray at ur local auto shop (like autozone or walmart) and spray ur belt to clean them.

ur belt just prob has greese or dirt on them.

if that still doesnt help, take it back to the stop and have them check ur tensioner.
