02 Civic LX - Weird Manual Transmission Problem
 

Hello! Firstly, thanks to everyone who reads this and gives any input!!!

I just bought an 02 Civic 5-speed... the car runs great, with one exception... when shifting from one gear to another, it feels like something is blocking the path to completely put it in that gear. There's usually a plastic-like creak when I try. That being said, if I move the shifter towards the middle of the shift sequence (ie, when going from 1st to 2nd, if I move the shifter to the right towards 5th, then into 2nd), it shifts just fine. There is no grinding or gear scraping or anything like that... just the path is blocked unless I move off the path first. Does my description make sense?

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

go to a transmission store and have them check your shifter. adjust if necessary, replace if something broken
