Subs on stock stereo?

My friend is hooking me up with two audiobahn(2000w) subs with a legacy amp for 300$(Cdn) . I haven't gotten the time or the money to install the bracket and a new stereo. I was wondering, can you install subwoofers on the stock stereo(i have an LX)
Thanks

yea that's easy just run an sni converter on the rear speaker wires.. that'll turn them into the rca jacks needed to run an amp.. unless your amp has the speaker wire type inputs.. im' drawing a blank on the name right now... but yes... i have installed many subwoofer systems on cars w/ factory radios..

Jl Audio Makes A Bad Ass Convertor Box For That Its Pretty Pricey Like Around 300 Bux But Its Amazing, It Will Basically Make Your Head Unit Do Everything A 3-4 Hundred Dollar Head Unit, All The Rca Hook Ups And Everything You Will Need, And When You Shut It Off The Subs Wont Kick You In The Nads Like A Lot Of Factory Stereos With Subs Do.

My Buddies At Circuit ****ty Say It Will Do Everything You Need To Except Give You A Lap Dance.

yea.. jl audio clean sweep... we call it the magic little black box... not necessary for the average guy just wanting subs though...

Wadely 09-27-2006 08:02 AM

Yea You Seem To Describe It Like My Friends, Is It Really That Bad Ass?

05blkrs 09-27-2006 11:04 AM

let's just say it's better than an aftermarket radio... it has a better pre out voltage and much much much much more.. it does EVERYTHING

Wadely 09-27-2006 06:21 PM

I may consider getting that since I look the look of the factory unit

i would just get an sni converter for now.. that unit's so pricey... and then when you dont have anything to spend 300 bucks on, get it

Wadely 09-27-2006 09:58 PM

hahah thats 10% of my turbo if and when they get one out!

05blkrs 09-27-2006 10:17 PM

exactly... there's way better stuff to spend money on.. you can get an sni for 20 bucks.. if you can't find one for that price, send me 20 bucks and i'll mail you one.

Wadely 09-29-2006 08:45 AM

Haha Thx, Ill Keep That In Mind.
I Had Origioanlly Got The Dx Stereo Bezzle And Put In An Alpine And Had A Kicker Vr350 X 2 Amp, With A 12 Inch Mtx Sledgehammer 5500 Series Sub, But I Find That My Style Of Driving Really Distrupts Objects That Are Suppose To Stay Stationary, Plus Its Extra Weight, And With A N/a Fg1 I Need It To Be As Light Weight As Possible Lol

05blkrs 09-29-2006 03:39 PM

you still got the alpine? i want to buy one and i'm an alpine fanatic.. if so, are you interested in selling? how much? and what model?

Wadely 09-29-2006 03:52 PM

I Dont Remember Which One It Was, But Yea I Already Sold It For 120 Bucks, I Got It Before Best Buy Baught The Rights To Em And Ran Em Into The Ground, They Are Garbage Now, But Honestly If Your Looking For A Head Unti Get An Eclipse, Circuit ****ty Carries Em, Hands Down The Best Head Units, And If You Got Any Boys That Work For Em See If They Can Use Their "accomodations" For Ya If They Didnt Already Use It.

well i just bought some subs and an amp that i want to install on my factory stereo, but when i took it to a garage to set it up, cuz im not good with this stuff, they said that they need to first order a chip to because its a stock stereo. is that true? do you need some chip in order to set up some subs on these stock civic stereos?

05blkrs 10-01-2006 03:05 PM

they may be refering to this sni unit i was talking about.... it just taps into your rear speaker wires and converts the signal to a signal that's useable by the amp...

Wadely 10-01-2006 10:35 PM

just double check with them to make sure, if they are charging you more than like 20-30 bux for it tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine

so youre saying that the "chip" they're talking about should only be that expensive? is it possible to do it without a chip? because i went the first time, he said it wold take an hour. when i went back after an hour, he said that he COULDNT set up the subs cuz its a stock stereo and that he needs to order a chip. is it not possible without one? i didnt know that.

05blkrs 10-02-2006 10:45 AM

this "chip" i hope he just used that word to describe it in lamans terms... it's not like you jsut plug a chip in somewhere and voila it works... find out what exatly it is they want to order and how much

AJay1088 10-02-2006 11:21 AM

this is bizarre, now they are just telling me to go somewhere else. This problem all got started when one place wanted to charge me $600 to install it and i said no way, and this garage said that they cant do it cuz its a stock stereo. I should just do it myself. does anyone know where to go to find out how subs are installed on stock stereos? or a website or anything?? this is crazy, i want my subs!!

AJay1088 10-02-2006 11:52 AM

you know what, screw it, i'm just gonna take it to circuit city

Wadely 10-02-2006 03:23 PM

sni convertors are pretty common, you do know you can get an after market head unit right?

AJay1088 10-02-2006 06:04 PM

i didnt want to spend much more money, and it doesnt matter cuz i took it to circuit city and they are installed and running, so alls well that ends well.
