What kind of ATF should I use??

Well, I have a 2001 civic auto. and it has around 34k miles and i drive my car pretty hard so i need to replace my atf. but i need to know which kind is the best and where can i get it??? I heard some people using mobile 1, the honda kind, and quaker state. thanks

Why not just use Honda ATF again?

Try Mobile-1 ATF, my car has it and it runs very smooth. Make sure to clean the magnetic drain plug, I bet it will be very dirty (after you running your car for 34K miles). Good luck.

I just changed mine to Honda's Z1 ATF. Honda has different specifications for its ATF than other manufacturers. Most other manufacturers use Dexron III type ATF, while Honda and Chrysler use their own formulation.

Here is a good link from an Acura Vigor enthusiast club. The information is quite relevant.

wow, that's a great link.

Use HONDA ATF.

Im using Motul synthetic ATF and my car runs perfectly, you should be changeing your ATF every 30,000, I change my motor oil every 3,000 with Motul Synthetic. its one of the best brands out there

From the Vigor site...
"Second, Acura recommends using genuine "Honda Premium Formula Automatic Transmission Fluid or an equivalent DEXRONŽ II Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) only." Many club members reported harsh shifting problems that were fixed by changing over to Honda's ATF. Apparently, the difference is significant enough that we recommend using only genuine Honda ATF."

CivicPro01 05-19-2003 11:35 PM

so the verdict is honda or mobile 1???

klam 05-20-2003 06:19 PM

I think the risk-free way to go is Honda's Z1 ATF.
