CAI = Better Gas Milage
 

Now, before I start, I tried to keep this as consistent as possible. I make no claim that these results are what is supposed to happen, this is just my experience.
The test... I drove my car for 3 weeks with the stock air box. I drove it like I normally do, back and forth to work 5 days a week (94 miles round trip) and also the average runs around town. My commute is about 3/4 highway driving (55 mph and above) and the rest is in town driving. I then repeated this for 3 weeks with the Injen CAI and basically did the identical test.
My driving style: Going to work, I drive normally, shifting between 3000 and 4000, I do 62-65 MPH on the highway (55 limit) and normally don't screw around (at 6 am when I leave, I'm not awake enough to drive hard) occasionally in the afternoons on the way home, I'll take the curvy road home, but not very often, and there still I don't run the engine too hard. I rarely redline it, but when I'm messing around, I'll shift it at 5000 or so.
So now to the results....
With the Stock Air Box, gas mileage averaged out to 33.4 MPG (4 fillups)
With the Injen CAI, gas mileage increased to an average 35.1 MPH (same 4 fillups, but the last one came closer to the end of the test)
A typical fillup was about 9.5 gallons.
So drive responsibly, have some fun, and you'll save some gas money for other things.:tup:

By theory, i think the intake is supposed to give you better gas mileage...

i'm getting 1-2mpg less with my injen cai.

when i had injen cai. i get less mpg.. dont know y . well i got rid of it .

In theory your engine runs more efficient in burning more fuel in the cylinder. This increases power. However as the slightly cooler air is put into the cylinder it is more dense and thus MORE fuel goes into the cylinder. This makes for better power efficiency. Fuel milaege should normall decline very slightly..

The car has to burn extra gas to increase horsepower. You cannot have more power with better gas mileage.

i feel it eats more gas..but i always red line...so it's a different story

I just got back from an 2600 mile trip with my 2002 civic ex with AEM CAI, and I use AMSOIL synthetic 5w 20 motor oil. I also tried 2 different tire pressures. On my way there 1300 miles I used 33 lbs of pressure per tire and averaged 41.5 mpg at an average of 70mph. On my return home I used 38 lbs of pressure per tire and averaged 45.1 MPG at an average of 70 mph. I used many different fuels on the trip and hess seemed to be the worst of them all IMO. This was with me, 1 passenger, my dog and a trunk full of luggage.
