Painting interior trim

I went to pepboys today and was about to buy what i believe is the type of paint that is specified in the DIY for this. It was a yellow spray can that said import paint, or something like that on the front, it had the same color number and everything from the DIY. However, when i went to ask a salesman where the primer was he told me that this paint would not work on the interior and the can did seem to indicate that this was a touch-up paint for the exterior. So, my question is: what does the can look like for the correct paint? and also what does the primer look like? Was I looking at the correct stuff and was just misinformed, or do i need to find something else. Thanks in advance for the help.

Primer is the really plain, rough, non-shiny "paint". It helps the paint stick to the car. It's usually grey but you might find it in other colors.

Might need it, might not. New at painting.

Krylon makes a white sandable primer

I appreciate that advice. But I would like to stay with the plasti-kote products like the DIY specifies. So, what i'm trying to figure out is are these the correct products:

Thanks again for the help.

yeah that will work....all you need is spray paint...pretty much any kind of paint. vinyl paint, or you can pick up some rust oleum stuff....you dont need nothing fancy. the DIY recommends plasti kote because thats what auto stores carry...but any spray paint will work. and I WOULD KNOW lol...trust me

Ok, thanks, I'm very inexperienced with this sort of thing. So when the guy at pepboys told me that it wouldn't work I wanted to make sure before i do anything permanent to my car that it really would be alright. Thanks again for the help.

it's not permanant.. just paint it black again if you don't like it

not to stray too far from the topic, but how to you pop off the trim around the doors handles and the ac vents? the diy does not specify...=/

any help appreciated, thx=]

wow, way to bring up an old thread - i think i was a "junior member" back then

anyway the a/c vents you push them down a little, and use the rag and screwdriver method to pry them out.
as for the door handle trim, i have no idea, but it would probably involve removing a screw or two, and maybe the entire door panel *shrug*

Just buy some quality paint and pay at least 3 to 4 dollars for the can of spray paint. you may want to put a clearcoat on the plastic as it may scratch. Or just put a good number of coats on. It would probably be a good idea to ask someone at a body shop what they think as well. They could maybe give you some info on quality paint. Not trying to be mean, but plasticoat is kind of a cheaper paint. I would probably try Krylon or better. Jes tryin to help.

Throw some clear coat on top of the pieces after you paint them...get that nice, shiny, finished look!
