Valve TDC question please. Thank you.

I have a D17A2 SOHC head ready to bolt to block. Issue is I want some assurance I have the valve position correct before I torque it down so there is no interference. There are 16 valves and at TOP DEAD CENTER no valves should be sticking there neck out so to speak when I torque head to the block from what I have read.

So which of the 16 valves would open next then please? I am assuming 1 of the exhaust valves of cylinder #1.

I do not want to assume. I have been calling mechanics and offering cash for this info yet get the cold shoulder every time.

I have a Helm's manual, Haynes, and Chilton, which only seem to make good paper weights on this topic.

there should be some sort of line or notch on the cylinder head and the cam gear. line them up and you're at TDC
