ram air hood anyone??
 

i removed all my intake components just to see what everything is like in there and noticed the throttle body facing up. is there a ram air hood out there that we can use to directly connect to the intake? it would be perfect. just thinkin. also, is our intake manifold made of plastic??

Well, if there is not a ram air hood out there you could make one if you really wanted to. Just keep in mind that you will still need an air filter on there too.

I've heard others mention this idea in the past.
It is very interesting. Others have said, the only time it would
mean any hp gains would be past 200mph. Then the pressure on the
face of the hood causes an advantage. It would still look
really cool though. :tup:

I hope someone designs a ram air hood for our cars, I have seen some really nice ones on older vics adn really want one.[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

what if it was raining? won't the water get in easier to the throttle and to the engine?

Even at 40-50mph you would still get a ram air effect. Better than nothing. You would need to build a box on top of the intake manifold to catch the air, and have a place to drain water off instantly because water would get in. I have a friend with a SS Camaro with true ram air hood, and if I decided to go that route, I would model my intake after that. So find a car with true ram air and do the same. Also, a ram air hood doesn't have to be attached to the hood to be functional, if there's an opening it is still providing more cold air into the engine bay to keep the engine cooler which is great in itself.

Im building a ram air hood righ tnow actually. i have teh mold complete, im just waiting on teh fiberglass in teh mail, im not sure if im gonna vacuum form it or not, but it has certainly turned out to be a fascinating project to say the least.

MY scoop will be completely functional, but teh gains will be nil, so really its all rice. and i decided Im ok with that.

the mold will be reuseable, so if it turns out OK then i cna make copies all day, including factory CF hood copies. dont expect fantastic performance, im not here to lose weight, to add performance, its more of a designers challenge. that is why I did it.

and as far as the rain problem, the solution is real easy. dont drive in teh rain [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/IMG]:)[IMG]i/expressions/laugh2.gif[/IMG]

im still hammering out intake designs, but seeing as i dont get paid till teh end of the month, its all good. i gots plenty of time.

i got a billion pics of my progress, but i only have 4 meg on this server, im severely limited to what i can do. still, thisll give a general idea of what im doing, its really quite a repeatable experiment!
