1st oil & transmission fluid change at home.. Hi, I plan on doing my first oil & transmission fluid change at home next weekend, just thought I would ask for any tips, concerns etc... I plan on purchasing the following axle jack stands for the purpose: www.canadiantire.ca Product #09-0013-2 any concerns or suggestions ? it's a stock 99 Civic LX manual transmission. |
Re: 1st oil & transmission fluid change at home.. Changing the oil is simple, reaching the filter can sometimes be a pain in the butt. ever done this before? tranny oil is slightly more complicated. You might need a transfer pump to refill the tranny after draining. It would be helpful to know your current level of experience, I don't want to treat you like a total rookie, if you have some knowledge! those jack stands should work great for what you need, always be careful and safe when going under a raised car. you will also need a trouble light or something. |
Re: 1st oil & transmission fluid change at home.. If the 99 is like an 01-05 there will be a transmission drain bolt as well as a filler bolt. In which case I find it easier to change than the oil. There's no filter to remove and you can just get a funnel with a long tube and stick that in from the top of the engine. The filler bolt would be a few inches above the drain bolt. |
Re: 1st oil & transmission fluid change at home.. Thanks guys for the responses. Will get that Long tube. I have done a lot of work on motorcycles, but first time I will be doing anything to the car. I found the owner manual will look there. Bought a cheaper $17 jack stand from Canadian Tire today. will get it done something this or next weekend. Thank you! |
