Painting Headlight Housing

For all the members who painted the headlight housing:

1. I assume I have to remove the bumber just like clearing the lights... is that true?
2. What kind of paint did you guys use? (Does it have to be able to handle strong heat?)

Danx ahead of time.

I removed the bumper and the headlights off the car, would be too hard to seperate otherwise, don't worry, the bumper is the easy part. As far as paint, I would use heat resistant, they make it in all colors and gloss degrees, don't want it flaking off after you've spent all that time painting them.

just goto Kragen and get some gunmetal paint dass wha i did
took me 3 hours to clear and paint the headlights pretty good shyt!
ish hella easy to do it if u know what u are doing.

Ive done this on a number of vehicles, including our 01 civic .. heat build up is not an issue unless you sit for long periods with the lights on... trust me, the housing would start to melt before the painted area bubbled.

also, you should only paint the removable chrome section the clear housing is screwed onto.. not the chrome reflector area.. if you do you will have a huge decrease in light output. The outer chrome area is for show only.... as said, very easy to do if you have any mechanical clue.

haha... danx guys, i hope nobody out there is dumb enough to paint the reflector part too:shake::shake:

i think you would (or wouldnt.... lol) be suprised at how terribly clueless some people are about things... just dont think 5hit through

"I painted my light housings and the curved chrome peice in the rear with flat black and I just cant figure out why my headlights dont work anymore! its not like I painted bulb itself!!"

lol

civicdragon 03-15-2002 03:44 PM

I did mine also. Used krylon dark blue from walmart almost a year ago and they still look good.

DarkCivic 03-15-2002 05:02 PM

Hey civicdragon- did you use high-temp or regular spray paint?
