Headlight Painting - Gloss, Satin Or Flat? Not sure which black to go with, can someone post pictures? Also, which is used for the aftermarket lights? I like those. I think I'm going to try this very soon provided I don't need anything more than screwdrivers, sockets, sandpaper and paint. Also, should I cover it with a clearcoat? |
buy krylon plastic fusion gloss black |
high temp black engine paint.. dont use regular it will flake from the heat |
Does it really get that hot from a bulb? |
yes very hot. have you ever felt the lights after they've been on for a while. do hi temp flat black. |
hehe... do lights get hot... sometimes i think people dont completely think everything though all the way. common sense buddy! it'll save your ass :) |
Why flat? Why gloss? no love for satin black? |
well it depends on the color of your car: if its black---do black basically anything else do black or graphite i didnt do high temp paint and mine hasnt flaked at all; just make sure you prime it about 2-3 coats and paint 3 coats heres mine: http://www.7thgencivic.com/memberrid...re_016-med.jpg |
It's a 2005 real dark silver colour. The US colour I guess. |

|
i painted mine flat black not hi temp or anthing special and they've been fine for 2 years |
in that case---i think black would look the best....b/c your gonna hafta match the color of your car for it to look good |
the engine paint looks fantastic. i knew a guy who painted his 240SX with that stuff and it looked stupidly good. i thought for sure he was gonna make a mess of it painting his whole car but it looked real clean and sharp. |
Eventually I want to paint the whole top half of my car black, from just below the door handles up. And I'll be tinting the windows and getting some blacked out altezzas. But only after some wheels and a drop. |
your color is magnesium metallic i have the same color. just do flat black or something a very dark grey, i will be donig mine in a couple of weeks and im going to do mine a very dark grey/gunmetal colour so it will match my rims |
haha but which black? Gloss, satin or flat? And why? I'm just trying to find out if it's personal preference or if there's a general consensus that one is better looking. |
well thats all up to you. i prefer flat black over gloss and there are others who prefer gloss over black. its jsut upto you, choose whatever you like best and good luck, and post pics when your done |

i used a hair dryer and it only took bout five mins to get headlights pulled apart.....but it took forever getting that damn black sealent off.....also i used rtv clear window sealent and it seemed to seal fine |
heh, onlything about those sealants is that they seal great, they just have high temp resistance. so heat it all day, and nothing will happen. |
