2.25 homemade exhaust (pics) Now with video

So far I have put about 12 hours into construction and 150 for materials. I figure everything will be set and done 2morow after 2 more hours of work. If you have any questions about the materials pm me and I can tell you exactly what I used. 2morow I will be posting up some clips of it in action. I think it really is turning out better then I expected for 150 bucks. The whole project is 180 with the ex manifold and Im hopping to get some nice flow from it.

Here is the ex vs dx manifolds. I really like the ex manifold because of the tubular 1 inch runners and its cheaper so I was hesitant to just weld on a new flange.

EWWWW stock 1.5" diameter dx exhaust.

High flow cat that I bought off my freind for 25 bucks that was brand new. Im unsure what kind it is cause he didnt have the box or anything.

Down pipe with the cat attached.

Spot where we used 2 45' angle pieces, we tried to make all bends as mellow as possible for the best possible flow.

New exhaust laying next to the old.

Axel back piece. This is where we really saved a bunch of bends, the muffler sits high enough that it clears the axel and still comes out pretty nice on the bumper.

o2 bungs to prevent any kind of check engine light.

My buddy dan that did all the welding for me.

More pics to come soon of it on the car and all bolted up 2morow afternoon

nice  nothin like DIY's...

Boost_Junkie 02-21-2005 10:42 PM

nice nice...post more pics!!...but clean your car hehe

ajhdragon 02-21-2005 10:43 PM

looks nice but im wondering about the flow in there, thats alot of welds. but im intrested in the sound.

joshb_ 02-21-2005 10:45 PM

haha i love salt, makes your car look so bad.

yea i think the flow issue should be alright with all the welds because of how much straighter it is and the diameter being .75 inches larger. The sound im hopping is ok with out a resinator......

gearbox 02-21-2005 10:50 PM

Omg you made an exhaust? props!!

joshb_ 02-21-2005 11:08 PM

Yea I was kinda scared it wouldnt come out right and it would be a waste of like 200 but I think its nice so far. The sound will make or break it really. I just hope I dont have to throw in a res because that would be a bitch.

chrisleecool 02-21-2005 11:31 PM

nice DIY man...
post more pix tomorrow :)

WOW LOOKS REAL NICE. sorry about the caps. well i was wondering, i am thinking about doing this also, what are the gains off of doing a 2.25" exhaust piping and headers and high flow cat and wat not. is there a noticeable n/a motor sound? also i have an ex wat is the stock size piping on that and would it be a ok way to get a little more umph in the top end cuz of this?

AlienX 02-22-2005 12:16 AM

now that it dedication. +1 Rep for the awesome work.

Keep us updated

it's the same as most catbacks just custom. any exhaust shop can do the same but why pay them when you can do it yourself.

jttegx 02-22-2005 03:14 AM

damn, taking the DIY even further. nice. doesnt look too flashy, but all about function.

streetglower 02-22-2005 03:34 AM

good job, but have fun installing that. If it is one big piece, it will be a bitch to get all in there. I had a hell of a time removing my old exhaust that was all welded together. Had to cut it in half to get it off.

JCiv03 02-22-2005 03:40 AM

Good stuff! I wish I was mechanically competant like that... Can't wait to see the results!!!

scatman 02-22-2005 07:06 AM

Drk01Civic 02-22-2005 08:50 AM

Its just like the stock, It unbolts at the header then again at the axel back. Its one big b pipe/down pipe piece then a axel back. Im about to go finish it up right now so pics will be up soon along with either sound or video clip.

joshb_ 02-22-2005 05:47 PM

Ran into some problems today......the exhaust is hanging to low i have re bend some hangers.....it also sounds like shit because of no res so im going to have to throw one of those on there.

flotsamm 02-22-2005 06:47 PM

Uh.. good job but I think your gonna lose some well needed bottom end torque. May not be big loss, but I'm thinking your gonna be slower now off the line now. I thought you only really needed to go this pipe diameter if your boosted.

hotrodcivic2004 02-22-2005 07:40 PM

silverem2 02-22-2005 08:52 PM

joshb_ 02-23-2005 09:47 AM

Its called a thrush turbo.....20 bucks at advanced auto hahaha. It sounds ok its just really loud ill deff get a clip up once i get the res in today.

2004CivicHBSi 02-23-2005 10:28 AM

hahahha Thrush Turbo hahaha lol.. i bet you if you had a better brand named muffler it would sound better.. like a greddy, ractive, dc sports

joshb_ 02-23-2005 10:33 AM

No that muffler sounds good with the right resinator man. I didnt want a fart can.

Civic_Racer9 02-23-2005 11:00 AM
