Detailed insructions on Painting plug cover...
 

The next mod i'm looking at doing is painting the plug cover. I have done a few different searches but can't find any detailed instructions. I want the base to be one colour and the letters to be another colour. I'm sure there is a million ways to do this but could a few people please post some of their ideas on the easiest and most effective way of doing it. thanx

1) Open your hood

2) Remove the two plastic screws that are on the valve cover

3) Remove the piece from the engine bay

4) Clean the pieace up real good, and let the thing air dry, don't dry it with a cloth because you might get lint

5) Lightly sand the piece down

6) Apply 3 light coats of white primer (Wait atleast 30 mins in between each coat to make sure it dries properly)

7) Apply 3-5 lights coats of the color of your choice (Wait atleast 30 mins in between each coat to make sure it dries properly)

8) Let the piece dry over night

9) Goto your local craft store, and fine some color that you want to paint the letters in (you can't spray paint this because it would be hell masking it right)

10) Paint the letters to your desire

11) Let the piece dry for atleast about three more hours if you intend to apply clear coat otherwise let the piece dry for about 5 hours before inserting back into the vehicle

12) At this point you are done, but if you wish to make the piece more shiney, and protect it more, add some clear coats to it (as many as you wish)

thanx for the tips WhosYoDadday85 but could you please explain the painting the letters step a little more. Do you use a brush and if so what size and what kind of paint do you use.

Actually on the letters if ur gonna color them black , blue, red , or green, then just use a sharpie permanent marker thats what i did and it looks good and hasent smeared or anything so i would do that if ur using those colors

i didn't sand mine down......

to paint the letters i used model paint from walmart and got really small paint brushes there too.....just take ur time in painting the letters

1) I took mine out.
2) Cleaned it with alchol to get all the armorall off.
3) I didn't sand cause sometimes scrathes show through.
4) Then I put many light coats of Hi-Temp 500 degree paint...red.
5) Let it dry and you got yourself one Hi-Temp shiny ass peice of Ford red plastic.....and I mean shiny.

i took mine out and then i used house paint primer and used that without sanding and i spray painted it midnight blue and then i took a little more primer and hand painted the letters black with a small paintbrush, then applied clear coat one after the other after the other ! did like 3-4 coats and it looks tight! i am proud!

Sharpie? Hehehe, I used a crayon...hehehe, j/k, that's cool just sounds funny. :tup:
