Good job man! Awesome DIY!

Grey 10-30-2001 07:00 PM

Hey, way to go! Hopefully this will cut down on the N00B questions.

jonavin 10-30-2001 08:16 PM

Good DIY post. I thought you have to remove the bumper to install a CAI, maybe it's just for the Injen one? I guess going under your car is a lot easier for filter changes/cleaning.

Spaulding 10-30-2001 09:34 PM

Nice DIY. I give it an A.

Very helpful.

Thanks

AFlyer 10-30-2001 09:51 PM

Dueyboy2001 10-30-2001 10:22 PM

Excellent DIY. This will definately deminish the amount of questions that this newbie has

nbpEMCivic 10-30-2001 10:26 PM

lol..there are instructions that come with it...they were easy to follow for me...hell i even was able to cut the pipe and put the bypass on....

ph0ng 10-31-2001 02:06 AM

Thanks guys.
I did it mostly out of the constant amount of requests for one. I guess people like to see how it's done before they try... at least I do

glad this helps you all out. I just followed the instructions, and took pics to go with!

I emailed Derek to put the link on the main DIY section. Hopefully he can do this and make it easy for the rest of you who don't know how to search.

Grey 10-31-2001 09:59 AM

Yeah, I try to keep all DIY's up here in the tech forum until they get put up in the DIY section of the site.

May want to also include notes that this info will work for a SRI as well, just don't use the instructions for the second pipe, as an SRI doesn't have one. But the rest of it, removing the stock parts, and attaching the O2 sensor and first pipe mount, is all the same.

trevor 10-31-2001 02:14 PM

that was a nice diy cai.....thank you.....
now...how do ya install the bypass?:):):):):):):):):):):)

dablueXcivic 11-01-2001 01:03 AM

you need to cut the inlet pipe on both sides of the template that is wrapped around the pipe and just put it on

nbpEMCivic 11-01-2001 10:59 AM

Also make sure you sand down the edges after you cut. And then run some water through the pipes to get all those little pices of metal out. Then dry it.

phong:
if you want, send me a copy and i'd be glad to host a mirror copy of it on my DIY page (full credits of course)

vexxed82 11-06-2001 08:36 AM

Phong, do you have a 5 speed manual or automatic, if it is manual are there any aplications for an automatic 2001 civic?

ph0ng 11-06-2001 07:00 PM

Last I rememeber reading... the CAI can't install on the automatic. I think the transmission is bigger and is in the way of the lower tube placement.

Toasty, I was inspired by your own DIY pages. Thanks bud.

StLVtec 11-06-2001 10:14 PM

Awhh,.. nice DIY very helpful cant wait till i get some spare money will be awhile and get mine ill do my install myself now. Thanks.

Bartkat 11-06-2001 10:16 PM

Right. The AEM for the EX automatic just comes in Short Ram. I just put one on mine. I like it.

Jimmy24 11-29-2001 04:54 AM

Hey guys I installed an AEM CAI in my EX and I always have this question for all of you!!!!
If this is a cold air system, why is that the air filter is behind the radiator fan, this is where the hottest air is! hot air from the radiator! I was thinking to go to a muffler shop an make an extention down to the side of the fender, and then to the bumper, what do you all think!!!!!!!!!

ph0ng 12-02-2001 08:00 AM

I think that's why people get the Injen CAI. Because the filter sits into the front bumper away from the radiator.... but it requires the removal of the front bumper...

Jimmy24 12-03-2001 07:17 AM

I'll see if I find the way to make an extension so I can relocate the fiter inside the bumper!

mykel115 12-13-2001 01:33 AM

What will happen if you dont reset the ECU? after installing the CAI

mykel115 12-13-2001 01:35 AM

Be sure to get the Bypass valve also or your'e engine will be in trouble if you run into puddle or flood

mykel115 12-13-2001 01:41 AM

I dont think so that the radiator fan has the hottest air! Have you tried wiring your radiator fan backwards! Instead of the air blowing thru the engine the air will blow thru your radiator! I know you dont get it but try it reverse the wire of your radiator fan and let see what will happen
