2002 Honda Civic Metal grinding noise (car parked, engine 1.4 rph, ac off)

here is recording link (at 1:25)

Last year I got into an accident, and my primary car is total, so I started to drive this backup car, a 2002 honda civic. life is a little bit messy after the accident, spent a lot of time on the medical/billing, and paid little attention to this old car until today.

Since about 4 months ago, I notice the car is slow to start. Every day I drove about 0.25 mile in subdivision, then get to local road for 1 mile, then hit the highway and drive about 20 mile. I feel the car is lack of power in the first 0.25 mile, like 10-15 mph at most. then on local road, I can drive 40 mph. and on highway, I can slowly speed up to 60-70, ocassionly to 75.
Today (about 40 degree) I did some shopping and when I drive off the supermarket's parking lot, I heard some metal grinding noise from the front (engine?), my speed is about 10-15mph. That noise is not continuous, and it seems like the noise is gone when speed go up to 45, or maybe the other noise (wind etc...) make it less obvious. Once I got home, I park my car, and start the engine, with ac off, here is my recording.

the engine is about 800rph when it's idle, then I give it some gas, the speed increase to 1.4k rph then I heard the grinding noise (start at 1:25 in the recording), the noise is not constant/continuous, if the car is idle, there is no noise.
I also tried the same test with ac turn on. i didn't hear noticeable difference.
On August 2014 the AC freeze up while I drove on highway, and I heard the similar metal grinding noise (just much louder and constant). I replaced the AC system, and also did the oil change, the milage is 103k at that time. Now the mileage is 113k. Basically I didn't change oil in last 10k miles. I am going to take it to shop next Monday for oil change.

I wonder if lack of oil change could cause the grinding noise, or it might be something else, such as Idler pully bearing, transmission, water pump, and AC bearings?

Many thanks!

Have someone else work the gas pedal to make the noise happen, then use your ears to locate the area it comes from......you could use a stethoscope to pinpoint a source or area once you identify a general location to look (listen) in.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I did as you suggest, I can't tell where it come from. I can't reproduce the noise all the time. sometimes I heard the noise, sometimes it looks normal.

today I noticed there Is A GAP At The Connector Between Engine And Exhaustion Pipe, is that the issue, maybe it cause rattling?

My 2002 honda civic has some metal grinding noise (when car park, idle, ac off, the noise is come and go, and not continuous noise). here is the original post: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...ml#post4721386

Exhaust is normal. Gap is correct. If you could see it from the side you'd see it is a flexible joint with a real fat gasket in the middle.
