Synchromesh vs. Castrol 5w20 oil Ok I'm familiar with the synchromesh and all that stuff but a friend of mine, well versed in the GM language, (their all aliens I swear) says the 5w20 syntec is the same shit. Now I love Castrol don't get me wrong but I have no experience comparing the two. Anybody have any input? |
Re: Synchromesh vs. Castrol 5w20 oil i believe you are talking about Manual transmission fluids (MTF) remember, synchromesh and synchromesh FRICTION MODIFIED are two completely different MTFs. with that said, you only really need to use SMFM if you have a grinding/slipping trans. other wise, stick to honda MTF. but yes, SMFM (not regular SM) is pretty awesome stuff. i change out my MTF every 30k miles. i went from honda's MTF to SMFM back to honda. feels the same to be honest. but then again, my tranny has never given me problems *knock on wood* |
Re: Synchromesh vs. Castrol 5w20 oil BTW, 5w20 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to light for the usage of MTF. it'll break down too fast and there are no real added benefits that outweight the negatives. it should be 10w40 or equivalent (honda recommends) |
